Brief Introduction of Organization and Project
Aawaaj is a non-governmental organization working for breaking the silence in Karnali province for 25 years. It has been working on gender equality and social inclusion especially to the prevention and response of gender based violence through empowering women and girls, and promoting positive social norms by the man engaging for gender social transformation and positive masculinity. Aawaaj has been working with women and children from socially excluded groups to increase opportunities, better access to resources, services, improving social equity and improving environments of existing systems at community and government level. The Hamro Sahas Programme aims to prevent and respond to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) by supporting feminist organizations and Women’s Rights Organizations (WROs). These organizations are led by and actively engage with various marginalized groups and communities to strengthen their organizational capacities, ensure access to justice for GBV survivors, and advance gender-transformative social norm change in Karnali Province. The project also focuses on creating opportunities for capacity building among consortium partners, facilitating peer exchange and learning through Communities of Practice and promoting self and collective care initiatives.
The position will focus on the following thematic areas:
- Mobilizing and empowering women and gender minorities, particularly youth, as agents of change; engaging communities in GBV prevention; collaborating with faith-based and traditional actors; implementing behavioral change initiatives and transformational learning; and working with men and boys.
- Promoting positive masculinity, including parenthood, by engaging men and boys to foster gender-transformational change within families.
- Addressing harmful practices prevalent in Karnali Province.
- Shifting social norms around care and domestic work to redistribute care responsibilities within families and households. This includes promoting positive masculinity and parenthood by engaging men and boys.
- Addressing restrictions on property rights that limit women’s access to economic empowerment.
Main Tasks of the Team Leader:
1. Leadership and Strategy:
- Lead and guide project team members, providing direction and support to ensure effective collaboration and performance.
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve project goals and objectives.
- Monitor progress toward goals and make adjustments as needed to ensure success.
2. Team Oversight:
- Oversee all team activities, ensuring alignment with project objectives and organizational values.
- Structure tasks, assign responsibilities, and manage team workflows efficiently.
3. Planning and Decision-Making:
- Decide on approaches to tasks and develop actionable plans to accomplish them.
- Set clear goals for team members and ensure they are aligned with the project’s vision.
4. Communication and Coordination:
- Distribute information effectively to team members and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and clarity.
- Collaborate with consortium partners, providing guidance and fostering strong working relationships.
5. Documentation and Tracking:
- Track progress on various tasks, manage team members, and maintain organized documentation.
Qualifications and Expertise Required:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Social Science, Development Studies, or related fields.
- 5+ years of experience in project coordination, team leadership, or program management roles, preferably in multi-donor environments.
- Strong communication, analytical, and reporting skills.
- Expertise in multi-thematic data management tools, survey and data collection methodologies, and accountability frameworks.
- Knowledge of government child protection policies, sexual violence and gender-based violence policies, service systems, budgets, and local-level planning processes, with a strong gender-sensitive approach.
- Capacity to develop training manuals and facilitate training on gender issues.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, organizational, and delegation skills.
