Aasaman Nepal (ASN) ‘A pioneer organization for education and nutrition’, is one of the leading Terai based NGOs led and managed by social activists since its establishment in Dhanusha, Janakpur in 1999. ASN has been engaged in developing and implementing programs aimed at protection, promotion, and fulfillment of child rights in Nepal. Currently ASN has been working in 25 districts under 6 Thematic Areas as: Education/Child Protection, Women Empowerment, Livelihood/ Natural Resource Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, Health/ Nutrition and Good Governance.

Aasaman Nepal, in partnership with Welthungerhilfe, is implementing the Civil society for nature-based local agri-food-systems (CS4FS) which aims to improve the food security and resilience of 5000 marginalized households (26.610 persons) in three municipalities of Dhanusa District. 

The project contributes to the promotion of local agri-food systems through nature-based solutions and policy localization led by civil society organizations in Madhesh Province, Nepal. It is intended that 5,000 marginalized households have transitioned towards a regenerative agriculture production at the project end, civil society actors from the agricultural sector promote and advocate regenerative agriculture at municipal and provincial level and 3 local governments support policy and programmes in agriculture in line with the agro-ecological principles (municipal/provincial level). 

Aasaman Nepal is looking for self-motivated, result-oriented, and hard-working Nepali citizens for the following positions:

1. Agriculture and NRM Officer (Dhanusha Based) – Nos. 1

Key Responsibility: 

The position is based on the working Municipality of Dhanusha district with frequent field visit. The position directly reports to the Project Coordinator. 

  • Support in designing/planning program, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the project activities.  
  • Support for targeting project beneficiaries, group formation and sensitization.
  • Guide and supervise subordinate staffs i.e. JT, Enterprise development facilitators and Social Mobilizes. 
  • Serve as resource person for conducting and managing the specific training packages in relating to integrated farming.  
  • Demonstrate good agricultural practices at field and guide farmers on adopting the demonstrated technologies.  
  • Demonstrate climate smart technologies, local level nutritious crop/plants plot in field. 
  • Support for leasehold/riverbed farming implementation for pro-poor households.
  • Support in designing and implementation of small space cultivation practices. 
  • Support for the assessment of potential trade for entrepreneurship development.  
  • Maintain good working relation at working municipality and work closely with them to demonstrate a nutrition sensitive integrated farming approaches and advocate in incorporation of best practices into local government work plan/policy.    
  • Maintain a close coordination with WHH and its working partners in the project sites/district and local government and other relevant stakeholders for the smooth implementation of the project.
  • Conduct trainings as per the requirement of project and facilitate in organizing field visits and monitoring visits by local government, international visitors and stakeholders.
  • Support PC in writing monthly, quarterly and annual reports. 
  • Collect case studies and success stories of the project.
  • Ensure cross-cutting issues such as gender and inclusion mainstreamed throughout the project cycle.

Qualifications and experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) on agriculture, with 3 years of working experience in relevant field. 
  • Demonstrable experience on entrepreneurship development preferably off-farm.
  • Experience of working with community as well as with local government.
  • Self-motivated and have a good learning attitude.
  • Good communication skills both in English and Nepali languages. Fluency in Maithili language will be a plus point.
  • Open and believes in teamwork.
  • A valid license of two-wheeler is preffered.

2. Advocacy and Governance Officer (Dhanusha Based) - Nos. 1

The position is based on the working Municipality of Dhanusha district with frequent field visit. The position directly reports to Project Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge/skills on coordinating and working with Palikas/wards.
  • Understanding of the local political environment and key policies issues related to nutrition and agriculture. 
  • Skills in designing and conducting discussion sessions and evidence-based policy advocacy mainly on nutrition and agriculture.  
  • Facilitate groups/targeted communities to link them with Palikas and wards. 
  • Empower and support marginalized and vulnerable groups, including women, youth, and people with disabilities, in advocating for their rights and needs in relation to nutrition and agriculture policies. 
  • Lead or support the design and implementation of public awareness campaigns aimed at educating local populations about the importance of nutrition, sustainable agriculture practices, and policy changes. 
  • Maintain relation with multiple stakeholders i.e., Palikas, wards and relevant stakeholders. 
  • Generate periodic reports.
  • Develop and disseminate advocacy materials, such as policy briefs, position papers, and success stories, to promote key messages and influence the opinion and decision-making processes.
  • Demonstrate the evidence for the advocacy at local level.
  • Ensure the systematic documentation of all advocacy activities, lessons learned, and best practices to build the project’s knowledge base and support the scaling up of successful interventions.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree on social science, or relevant field, with 3 years of working experience in relevant field.
  • Self-motivated and have a good learning attitude.
  • Should have skill set on rights-based approach, gender and inclusion and PLA (Participatory Learning and Action)  
  • Familiarity to the accountability tools i.e., community sore card (CSC), public hearing 
  • Good communication skills both in English and Nepali languages.
  • Open and believes in teamwork.
  • Fluency in Maithali languages will be a plus point.
  • A valid motorbike license holder is preferred.

Languages: Fluent in Nepali, English, and the local language is preferred or required.
