The direct beneficiaries of this project will be people with disabilities in Dungeshwor and Gurans rural municipalities of Karnali province. Indirectly, a total of 1140 people with disabilities from two rural municipalities (Dungeshwor and Gurans) will be benefited. Among them, 504 people with disabilities will be organized into 28 self-help groups across 14 wards in the two municipalities.

The project is expected to achieve following three results to achieve objective of the projects within its 3-year duration.

  1. Organization of person with disabilities and self-help group members empowered to claim their rights for inclusion and accessibility.
  2. Enhanced access of persons with disabilities and their family member to sustainable, market driven and climate smart livelihood opportunities.
  3. Knowledge management and learning sharing of the best practices.

To establish a benchmark for project monitoring and evaluation outputs (Expected Results), outcomes (Specific Objective) and impact (Overall Objective) Everest Club intends to carry out a baseline survey of BIKAS project in Two Palika's of Dailekh District.

2. Rational of the baseline survey:

People with disabilities in Nepal more specifically in Karnali Province faces numerous barriers to accessing livelihood opportunities, including inaccessible workplaces, limited skills development opportunities, negative stereotypes, and a lack of reasonable accommodations. These challenges contribute to economic hardships and perpetuate the cycle of poverty among the People with Disabilities. Despite existing policies, their implementation at the local level is often inadequate, further marginalizing people with disabilities.

The project aims to address the pressing need for sustainable climate resilience livelihoods among people with disabilities in Dungeshwor and Gurans rural municipalities of Karnali Province. These individuals face significant obstacles in securing employment and generating income, leading to economic dependence and social exclusion. By empowering local governments to develop inclusive policies and programs, the project seeks to enhance climate resilience livelihood opportunities for people with disabilities, improving their economic independence and overall well-being. Dungeshwor and Gurans rural municipalities have been selected as project areas due to the specific challenges faced by people with disabilities in accessing climate resilient livelihood opportunities. These challenges include inaccessible work environments, effects of climate change, limited vocational training, and a lack of tailored job opportunities. Negative perceptions and social stigma further compound these challenges, making it difficult for people with disabilities to participate fully in the workforce.

In nutshell, the project seeks to address the economic challenges faced by people with disabilities in Dungeshwor and Gurans rural municipalities of Karnali Province, Nepal. Through a climate resilient livelihood-focused approach, the project aims to enhance their access to employment and income-generation opportunities, fostering economic independence and social inclusion.

In this context the project has planned to conduct baseline, need assessment and market survey in the project areas.
