Job Description/ ToR

POSITION: Teachers Development Coordinator (TDC)

Context

HELP is a local NGO established in 2009 with the goal of improving the quality of education in some of the remote village schools in Sindupalchowk. Its education programmes have supported around 90 schools, benefitting over 10,000 children in many of the outlying villages in Helambu Valley and the adjacent valleys.

Currently, it runs programmes like Saathi Teachers Programme, School in a Bag (SIAB), Scholarship Programmes, and CU Volunteer programmes, designed and aimed to strengthen the quality of education. Saathi Teachers Programme is an initiative under HELP designed to transform the educational experience of children in remote and marginalized rural communities at the primary level. It offers paired and paid teaching placements for qualified and passionate individuals to teach at basic-level schools (class 1 to 5).

Saathi Teachers Programme believes that the teachers should be friendly with the learners in order to create an effective learning environment. A Saathi teacher is a passionate teacher committed to improving students' numeracy and literacy skills and focusing on the development of the 4C (Creativity, Critical thinking, Communication, and Collaboration) skills of the 21st century among students developing in the primary classroom in a child-friendly way.

We are currently looking to recruit a Teachers Development Coordinator to join our Saathi Teachers Programme team. The major responsibility includes co-planning, co-designing and executing the constant support system and training, working with the team to enhance the capacity of the Saathi teachers and support their day to day teaching and educational activities in their classrooms and coordinating multiple events and meetings related to the programme at the municipality and donor levels.

Work Summary:

The key job is coordinating at HELP and on the ground to successfully co-design, develop and implement the HELP Saathi Programme. It will require the post to undertake rigorous tasks for the selection of the schools; recruitment of the new cohort of the Saathi teachers, co-designing and organizing training and regular sessions.

The work will involve spending time with the teachers, the pupils and the Headteachers in schools, and after analyzing the needs of teachers, co-design with them a high-quality programme of teacher training and support which is relevant to the local context. We are hoping that a sufficient support system in place will enable these teachers to feel confident in their placements.
