Practical Action Consulting (PAC) is a consulting arm of an international development organization ‘Practical Action’. PAC operates its research and innovations in three change ambitions of Practical Action- farming that works, energy that protects, and resilience that transforms. The goal of PAC is to make the world that works better for everyone. PAC in Nepal has worked in all 77 districts of Nepal through its assignments in different change ambitions. PAC Nepal is Asia region office of global PAC and has its footprint across different countries- Nepal, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan.
The Heat AI Project, led by Practical Action Consulting, aims to enhance climate resilience and disaster preparedness by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into local practices. This initiative will pilot innovative approaches in four locations: Bardiya, Salyan, Surkhet, and Nepalgunj. We are seeking qualified four candidates for the position of Short-term Consultants for Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction. Consultants will report to the Project Manager and work closely with the Heat AI Project team.

Project Duration
- December 1 – December 31, 2024
Objectives
The Consultants will ensure effective implementation of project activities in their respective locations by:
- Facilitating data collection and analysis.
- Coordinating with stakeholders and engaging local communities.
- Supporting the integration data collection into developing system.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Case Study Collection
- Document indigenous practices for mitigating heatwaves and enhancing climate resilience.
2. Emergency Mapout Data Collection
- Collect and organize data to identify high-risk areas and vulnerable populations.
3. Drafting Mitigation Strategies
- Develop context-specific mitigation strategies incorporating traditional knowledge.
4. Training Support
- Assist in planning and coordinating training sessions for local stakeholders.
- Lead workshops and ensure active participation.
5. Citizen Science Data Collection
- Participate in training sessions.
- Implement citizen science methods in the field.
6. Coordination and Reporting
- Collaborate with stakeholders for smooth project operations.
- Provide regular updates and submit timely reports.
Deliverables
- Case study reports for each location.
- Emergency map out datasets and visualizations.
- Draft mitigation strategies.
- Training documentation with feedback and outcomes.
- Progress reports detailing activities and recommendations.
- Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., DRR, Environmental Science, Social Sciences).
- Experience in data collection, community engagement, and project implementation.
- Strong coordination and communication skills.
- Knowledge of indigenous practices and DRR methodologies preferred.
- Proficiency in local languages is an advantage.
