OHW works with local communities and local health service providers to develop a culturally appropriate Network of Safety around mothers and infants, by raising awareness, teaching good practices, and distributing essential equipment to ensure that mothers and infants survive delivery and the first months of life.

Laerdal Global Health (LGH) has partnered with One Heart Worldwide (OHW) to reach their mission of Helping Save lives by improving the quality of the healthcare workforce through simulation-based programs in Nepal. In the partnership, OHW is also responsible for the administrative and people operations. 

LGH is a not-for-profit sister company of Laerdal Medical A/S, headquartered in Stavanger, Norway. The vision is that no one should die or be disabled unnecessarily during birth. LGH develops innovative, high-impact solutions to enable healthcare personnel to manage the leading causes of maternal and neonatal deaths. The overall strategic goal is to help save an additional 550,000 lives at birth per year by 2030 by utilization of their simulation-based solutions and programs in pre-service, in-service healthcare field. Through collaboration with partners and government agencies, these solutions are integrated into scalable and sustainable programs in the countries that need it most including Nepal, as one of the focus countries for Laerdal Global Health. The Senior Program Officer will provide support in the implementation of simulation-based programs, capacity-building activities, and setting up of simulation labs, under the Laerdal Global Health programs in pre-service medical, nursing and midwifery schools and in-service health care institutions in close collaboration with government stakeholders, experts, health care institutions, professional associations, experts, external development partners and donor agencies. It requires maintaining close and effective coordination with team members from Laerdal Global Health in Nepal, region and globally, external development partners, donors, government stakeholders, clinical experts and healthcare institutions. This position may require frequent field travel as required to the program sites.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of SBMP program in Nepal, ensuring alignment with project as well as organizational objectives and strategies.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to partners, healthcare professionals, and educators, institutions in the effective utilization of simulation-based set-up, training and methodologies.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to build capacity and enhance understanding of simulation methodologies.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and adapt simulation scenarios, materials, and curricula to meet the specific needs of the Nepalese healthcare system and institutions.
  • Support in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of simulation programs, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
  • Support in evidence generation through research and documentation of the simulation-based programs.
  • Foster strong relationships with local partners and stakeholders, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Prepare technical reports, and monthly reports including minutes of meetings and documentation of ongoing project activities.
  • Work closely with project team members and support in the overall program management including administrative and financial reporting as per the need.

Professional and Educational requirements:

  • MD in Community Medicine or Master’s degree in public health with a clinical background (medicine or Nursing) and a minimum of 2 years of working experience with Nepal's Health Care Delivery System, and with project/ program management in healthcare-related fields.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with teams, government and stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, execute, and evaluate programs effectively.
  • Ability to work independently having problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and negotiation skills enabling effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate proactive, resourceful, respectful and efficient behaviour.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint is necessary.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel within Nepal and abroad as required.
  • Experience of working in health care training using competency-based or simulation-based methodology will be prioritized.
