Background
Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) Nepal was founded in 2003 and has since established a reputation as one of the leading clinical research groups in Nepal. There has been considerable investment in upgrading the laboratories and in training young Nepalese clinicians and scientists. The main research focus is on the most common infectious diseases affecting the Nepalese population with a major focus on undifferentiated febrile illnesses and antimicrobial resistance.
Job Summary
Research Coordinator will be responsible for execution of new research project   “Understanding the Current Childhood Pneumonia Management Practices in Nepal”. This position is responsible for coordinating the implementation, quality control and completion of this project while assisting the study team in determining and accomplishing study objectives. He/she will have a central role in ongoing maintenance of informed consent, integrity of protocol implementation, accuracy of data collection and work with the ultimate goal of protecting patients participating in research study as well as to promote good clinical practices. The Research Coordinator must ensure that the Research runs according to specific requirements, regulatory procedures, and protocols.
Key responsibilities and tasks

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to

  1. Perform day to day management of the assigned research project in coordination with the OUCRU Nepal and site study team members.
  2. Understand study protocols and ensure sites comply with the protocol and GCP requirements
  3. Manage logistical aspect for the study setup and implementation (eg. prepare documentation for ethics/regulatory approval for the project as required, any  permits, purchasing.)
  4. Assist in organizing and conducting  site initiation visit , routine monitoring visit and close out visits
  5. Follow-up finding of site initiation visits, routine monitoring and close out visits and resolve it within given timeline
  6. Perform regular internal audits of the project to promptly detect issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
  7. Coordinate with site study team to ensure that screening, enrolments and follow ups are being conducted according to the protocol. 
  8. Verify the quality, accuracy, completion and timeliness of data. Completely and efficiently resolve data and audit queries and issues
  9. Maintain and update the Investigator Site File (ISF). 
  10. Manage protocol deviation tracking and report the same to OUCRU Nepal team
  11. Prepare study amendments and progress reports as required. Complete reports accurately and within the specified timelines 
  12. Induct  research staff into their roles and organize/provide training as appropriate
  13. Support project sections, including but not limited to Quality Assurance, Public engagement and data management. 
  14. Conduct and organize team meetings to discuss about project status and issues.
  15. Contribute to development of Research SOPs and forms
  16. Address project issues and discuss it with OUCRU team 
  17. Support research team to complete projects within allotted timelines and budgets
  18. Translate study documents (Nepali - English –Nepali) when required.
  19. Carry out data entry into computerized study databases, manage data and files, and verify data as required.
  20. Carry out other duties as reasonably required by the project
Selection criteria

Essential criteria:

  • Degree in Public Health, Nursing  or a related field
  • At least 1 year experience in research
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of organizational and record keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and see the big picture, yet still focus on detail and produce high quality work. 
  • Good English speaking and reading skills.

Preferred criteria:

  • Familiar with computer systems particularly MS office, electronic data capture and systems
  • Understanding of CB-IMNCI
