S.W. Nepal Pvt. Ltd. (Scott Wilson Nepal/SWN) is a wholly Nepali-owned multidisciplinary research and infrastructure development consulting service provider. Since 2000, SWN has been working with multiple development partners and the Government of Nepal, delivering quality outputs in the design and management of locally and government-led projects and programs. The projects are focused on local organization capacity development strengthening local government capabilities, green resilient infrastructure development, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the projects and programmes.

Terms of Reference (TOR) for Research Associate (Business Development)

Position: Research Associate 

Financial Remuneration: Attractive package reflecting competencies and experience

Working Days: 5 days a week (Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.)

Contract: Long-term

Location: Maharajgunj, Kathmandu (Central Office)

Reporting to: Business Development Lead

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate bid preparation and proposal writing for the Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Unit and Green Engineering Unit, ensuring efficient collaboration between technical teams, external consultants, clients, and all relevant stakeholders to deliver high-quality proposals, concept notes, etc. 
  • Conduct national and international portal-based market research, pre-positioning, and strategic priority setting.
  • Administer structured market analyses to forecast future project opportunities, identify ongoing opportunities, evaluate competitions, and prepare quarterly business reports highlighting business development strategies for the firm. 
  • Identify the experts and human resources through headhunts, advertisement, and LinkedIn, and update the SWN database.  
  • Carry out original research and analysis (i.e. descriptive, comparative and analytical) on specific thematic areas (e.g. agriculture, social/gender, energy) to support project implementation and management.
  • Support in content development of the company website and social media to reflect the firm's strengths and ongoing projects.
  • Any other task as assigned by the Business Development Lead. 

Education and Professional Experiences

  • Master’s degree, preferably in research methodology, management,  international development, civil engineering, statistics, economics, development studies, and other relevant field.
  • At least 2 to 5 years of experience in documentation, multiple project proposal writing, research, and program design for donors, multilateral organizations, INGOs, and NGOs in the development sector.

Core Competencies and Technical/Functional Expertise:

  • Excellent ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize and implement multiple tasks within strict deadlines, and produce high-quality deliverables.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Nepali languages
  • Excellent ability to work well within a team as well as independently.
  • Strong interpersonal capacity with a positive attitude and a good sense of humor.
  • Ability and willingness for field travel.
  • Strong at using MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Skilled in design and communication tools like CANVA, Piktochart, etc.
