PHASE Nepal is a non-governmental, organization established in 2006 with a vision to build a self-empowered and self-sustained society where all kinds of discrimination are absent (please visit www.phasenepal.org for more information).  PHASE Nepal’s health, education, livelihoods, research and strengthening the concept of independent living projects are currently running across various rural communities in Nepal.

We also implement various research projects in partnership with different universities from the UK and organizations from other Asian and African countries. Around 65 colleagues work with PHASE Nepal as full time staff and hundreds of volunteers help to accomplish our research and implementation activities. PHASE Nepal is currently looking for suitable candidates for the following position:

Position: Research Associate

Number of positions: Few

Duration: Initially for six months with possibility of promotion and time extension based on the candidate’s performance.

Duty Station: It is a Bhaktapur (New Thimi) based position with occasional field visits to project/ research sites.

DELIVERABLE GOALS: MAIN TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support in coordinating, planning, organizing, and conducting research.
  • Contribute to research programs, including program development, project evaluation, and proposal writing.
  • Support in scientific literature search, critical review and produce state-of-art knowledge. 
  • Support in the development of qualitative and quantitative research instruments, including structured surveys, semi-structured interviews, and focus group discussion for primary data collection.
  • Help explore, identify, and collect data from the secondary sources.
  • Assist in training to interviewers, enumerators, facilitators, and note takers, employed for qualitative and quantitative data collection.
  • Transcribe and translate qualitative data to prepare for analysis.
  • Clean, consolidate and prepare the dataset for quantitative data analysis and help in coding for qualitative data.
  • Assist in preparing the periodic reports to summarize project progress and help write up for publication, presentation, or for the use in further applied or theoretical research activities.
  • Assist in data collection to conduct KII, produce Participatory Videos and Survey.
  • Ensure research ethics maintained throughout the research period.
  • Coordinate with different department (HR, Logistic, finance as and when needed for project implementation).
  • Other responsibilities shall be assigned as per the requirement for this position.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/ REQUIRED PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • At least a master’s degree or equivalent in an Education-related discipline (preferably specializing in Social Studies, Educational Planning and Management, etc.) or an Environmental Science-related discipline (preferably specializing in Climate Change, Sustainability Studies, Natural Resource Management, Renewable Energy, or Environmental Technology, etc.). 
  • Fresh and bright candidates with aim of developing their career in Research will be given priority. Full mentorship and occasional professional training will be provided.
  • Candidates with experience in research, mainly in conducting Key Informant Interviews (KII), Focus Group Discussion (FGD)/ in-depth interviews, Field Surveys and using participatory methods are preferred but experience is not an essential criterion. 
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent proficiency in KOBO Toolbox and SPSS for data collection, analysis, and management.

Insurance & Benefits:

PHASE Nepal will provide accidental insurance of NRs. 20,00,000/- for employee and medical insurance of NRs. 2,25,000/- that covers the employee and his/her up to 2 dependent family members. While working in the office free lunch and tea are provided.
