For
Consultancy Assignment for Conducting the Study on Agrochemicals Policy, Supply Chain Market and Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) of Farming Community in Karnali Province, Nepal
Our food system is breaking due to unsustainable practices such as the haphazard use of external harmful chemical fertilizers and pesticides; mono cropping; and commodification. It has resulted in loss of biodiversity, soil health deterioration, and environmental pollution. The impact of climate change further exacerbated the situation. So, our current food production, processing, transportation, and consumption practices and their system suggest a need for transformation to ensure better human and planetary health.
To correct the situation, sustainable, nature-friendly solutions are needed. To transition through this situation, agroecology is emerging as one of the potential solutions globally, and in Nepal too it is being promoted lately by government and development agencies. Agroecology aspires to imitate a natural system with a blend of efficient sustainable technologies, tools, and practices, and develop a self-sustaining, synergistic system where the ecological, economic, and social aspects are balanced and move forward together. As with many crucial components, the transition to a more sustainable production system is crucial to achieving a sustainable system. Hence, this study is planned under the Green Evolution Project to establish a baseline on the policy environment and structures, farming community's current use, agrochemical markets, and Knowledge attitude and practice (KAP) regarding agrochemical usage and its alternatives.
The study is part of a multicountry project namely The “Green Evolution: Pathways to Food System Transformation” being implemented in Nepal, India (lead), and Bangladesh with funding support from Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). In Nepal, the program is jointly implemented by Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development (LI-BIRD), Himalayan Permaculture Centre (HPC), and Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bioresources (ANSAB) in three districts of Karnali province namely Surkhet (Birendranagar Municipality, Barahtal Rural municipality), Dailekh (Dullu Municipality, Aathbish Municipality) and Jumla (Tatopani Rural municipality).
Hence, LI-BIRD invites all eligible consultants/firms to submit the sealed proposal for undertaking the assignment.
