1. Background descriptions

2. Objective of assignment 

The objective is to help Habitat for Humanity Nepal (HFHN) develop 3-4 robust concept notes from an initial list of 4-6 concepts. The main audience is corporate donors and smaller regional and international foundations interested in funding projects in Nepal. 

The HFHN team has successfully developed its country strategy for FY25-27. In parallel with this exercise, the HFHN team have developed 4-6 concepts drawing on HFHN’s track record and current projects. From this list, 3-4 concepts are to be prioritized to tailor and fine-tune to suit a business audience.

3. Tasks to be completed by consultant

To develop robust, high-quality concepts to the standards required by private sector donors, we require a professional project developer. This requires a combination of good proposal writing skills in English together with strong business and project development expertise.

The expected activities/tasks are as follows:

  • Review the selected 3-4 concepts, speaking to the HFHN team, collecting background information, understanding the situation and context analysis, and testing key assumptions. The aim is to clarify the business case for the project and sharpen the (business) proposition.
  • Lead the HFHN team (Resource Development, Programs) to develop the 3-4 project concepts, leading and facilitating the writing process. The final product should be a 3-4 (max) page proposal for each concept with results clearly defined.
  • Support the HFHN team (RD, Comms) and Habitat’s Asia Pacific (AP) team to develop presentations (slide decks), providing inputs to the pitch to suit the donor audience and suggesting visuals/graphics. Target donors will be based on the priority donors identified through a mapping exercise.

5. Qualifications and experience of the Consultant 

Habitat Nepal is looking for an individual consultant with experience in business development and/or program development working for non-profit organizations. 

6. Coordination and Supervision

Under consultation will work under the supervision of Regional Resource Development Director, Habitat for Humanity International, Asia Pacific Regional Office, and in close coordination with Habitat Nepal’s Program Director and Senior Manager Resource Development and Communications for the assignment.

7. Support from Habitat Nepal: 

Habitat Nepal will provide following support to the consultant to develop the  concept notes

  • Dedicated support from Project Development Team, including subject matter experts, RD and Finance, during project design 
  • Timely review and feedback on draft Concept notes
  • Regular check-in calls with RD and Program leads
  • Timely sharing of all relevant reading materials

8. Application Requirements 

Habitat Nepal invites interested individual to submit the following documents: 

  1. Consultant latest CV
  2. Latest academic documents
  3. PAN registration 
  4. An application letter outlining how the assignment meets the consultant experiences, understanding the TOR and stating relevant assignments undertaken.
  5. Names and contacts (email, physical address, and telephone) of three professional referees for whom similar work was conducted 
  6. As required by Habitat Nepal’s Safeguarding Standards, all contractors/ companies/ firms and individual consultants need to submit criminal background check (Police Report) to be eligible for assignments.

9. Instructions to submit the proposal: 

Interested reputed and qualified firms/teams should submit their technical and financial proposal including testimonials/certificates at procurement@habitatnepal.org with subject line “Concept Proposal Development”

Application deadline: 23 February 2025

10. Mode of Payments 

Estimated level of effort: 2-3 days for initial discussions, collecting and reviewing information, 16 days for concept development and 2-3 days for inputs to presentations. In total, the expected level of effort is 20-22 days (max).

Payments would be based on satisfactory completion of deliverables, and on receipt of submitted invoices. The assignment will involve travel to HFHN office in Kathmandu, Nepal. Travel expenses will be reimbursed in addition to the consulting fee. This would be agreed in advance and in accordance with HFHN’s travel policies.
