Background:
Sustainable enterprise and Environment Development Working Awareness Centre (SEEWAC) Nepal/Kailali is a community development organization established and governed by a group of energetic development practitioners, rights workers, gender activists and professional trainers. Founded in 2063, SEEWAC/Nepal is dedicated to the cause of socio-economic empowerment of the children, young and adolescents, women, Dalit, indigenous communities, minorities, disadvantaged, excluded and socio-economically marginalized communities. SEEWAC/Nepal believes that development starts with people; hence is focused on the improvement in the overall quality of their lives. It focuses on the poor and marginalized people and endeavors to support the communities through the provision of sustainable livelihood assets and by resilient building, reducing vulnerability and empowering for the realization of universal human rights. Besides this, SEEWAC/Nepal is focused on health-related activities, institutional development of the different self-help groups and development organization, infrastructure development and addresses other contemporary development issues.
Scope of Work
A psychosocial facilitator- officer shall lead the overall “Empowering Nepalese Children with Disabilities: Bridging the Gap through Holistic Support Project” with close coordination with the donor, local government and concerned stakeholders. The officer will be responsible for planning, implementing, reporting, monitoring, and documenting of the project.
Job Description:
The psychosocial officer shall be mainly focused on the following major duties and responsibilities:
A. Planning and Implementation:
- Develop an operational plan for the project in collaboration with donor organizations, local government, schools, child clubs, and other stakeholders in the project area, ensuring effective execution of project interventions.
- Prepare periodic action plans for project activities and implement it as per the schedule in the target areas.
B. Capacity Development:
- Organize and conduct orientations, meetings, interactions, and discussions to raise awareness among communities and stakeholders about child rights, child protection, and other educational issues, with a special focus on children with disabilities (CwDs) and beyond.
- Manage in organizing workshops and training sessions to build the capacity of teachers, focal teachers for CwDs, SMC/PTA members, child club members, parents, and community stakeholders, aimed at promoting an inclusive learning environment. This includes training on inclusive classroom pedagogy, classroom management, child rights, child protection, and ensuring the active participation of children with disabilities (CwDs).
- Support community facilitators (CFs) in effectively implementing the project.
C. Psychosocial/Counselling:
- Conduct regular counseling to children with disabilities (CwDs) and their parents.
- Facilitate the sessions to develop parenting skills for parents of children with disabilities.
- Support focal teachers of CwDs in developing individualized education plans (IEPs) for children with disabilities.
D. MEAL:
- Conduct field visits to observe, monitor, and evaluate the project interventions and utilization status and share with the supervisor.
- Prepare the periodic reports of the project and submit it to the supervisor.
- Review the activities and financial progress of project interventions.
- Collect relevant information and prepare case stories, best practices, and lessons learned from the project and share with the supervisor.
- Support to develop the IEC-BCC materials - brochures, Hording board related to the disabilities for sensitizing the rights of CwDs.
E. Collaboration and Coordination:
- Keep close coordination with concerned local government, schools, child club, disabled networks, and other like-minded organizations and peer organizations, and seek collaboration in the project.
- Participate in the programs, meetings, and discussions held at the palikas/community level and share the learning and experiences.
F. Other Duties
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Academic qualifications, experiences, and required skills:
- A bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in education, child protection, and psychosocial/counseling services.
- Good knowledge of current education policies and inclusive education practices in Nepal.
- Expertise in counseling, report writing, and training facilitation.
- Strong team mobilization, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficient in English, Nepali, and local languages.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and internet usage.
- A valid two-wheeler driving license is required.
