The Centre for Mental Health and Counselling–Nepal (CMC-Nepal), a national-level NGO dedicated to promoting mental health and psychosocial well-being, is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Psychologist and MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning) Officer in Karnali Earthquake Recovery Project-MHPSS. The Karnali Earthquake Recovery Project-MHPSS, funded and supported by CBM Global, aims to contribute Improved well-being and resilience communities affected by the 2023 Jajarkot earthquake.” It is being implemented in Barekot Rural Municipality and Nalgad Municipality of Jajarkot District and Sanibheri of Rukum West District of Karnali Province.

1.Job title: Psychologist cum MEAL Officer

Number of positions: 1 (One)

Location: Bheri Municipality, Jajarkot with frequent field visit.

Position Overview:

The Psychologist cum MEAL Officer is responsible for leading mental health and psychological interventions while carrying out MEAL functions for the project. This role requires close coordination with the Project Coordinator, Mental Health Coordinator, and MEAL Coordinator. CMC-Nepal expects the individual to play a key role in enhancing the capacity of Mental Health Self-Help Groups, Peer Groups, OPDs, and frontline humanitarian actors in MHPSS, and to engage relevant stakeholders in the project. The officer will also provide psychosocial supervision to team members, MHPSS service providers, and Peer Support Providers assigned to the project.

The officer should collaborate with the Mental Health Coordinator and Program Coordinator to design, develop, and implement intervention plans for the project. Additionally, they should work with the MEAL Coordinator and Project Coordinator to ensure that an efficient MEAL mechanism is in place. Responsibilities include conducting one-on-one and group counseling, family sensitization, community awareness initiatives, coordination, and reporting on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) responses for CMC-Nepal.

This position is designed to enhance the mental health and psychosocial well-being and resilience of beneficiaries while ensuring that programs are effectively monitored, evaluated, and improved based on evidence-based practices. The officer will work collaboratively with various teams to implement psychological interventions and contribute to the overall success of the projects by utilizing MEAL methodologies.

Qualification and experience requirements: 

  • Master’s degree in General Psychology or Counselling Psychology.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in mental health support within humanitarian or development settings.
  • Familiarity with Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) methodologies.
  • Proven ability to conduct individual and group counseling sessions effectively.
  • Experience in training and capacity building for frontline humanitarian actors.
  • Proficient in data collection, analysis, and reporting related to mental health interventions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for engaging diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Understanding of cultural dynamics and sensitivity to community needs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address challenges in mental health programming.
