Maiti Nepal, like any other Non-Government Organization (NGO) in Nepal, operates through a general agreement with Social Welfare Council, Government of Nepal that allows it to implement programs to prevent human trafficking by reaching out to the community, particularly children and women, by raising the awareness level of communities and extending life skills so that children and women are not trafficked into different forms of abuse including exploitation.

Maiti Nepal, in collaboration with Women Development Social Center (WDSC) and Social Development and Research Center (SDRC), is leading a movement to foster a more just and equal society in Madhesh Province. In the districts of Dhanusha and Bara, where deep-rooted traditions often limit opportunities for women and marginalized communities, this project aims to drive meaningful change.

Through community-led initiatives, the project focuses on preventing gender-based violence, ending harmful practices like child marriage and dowry, and engaging men and boys as allies in gender equality. It amplifies the voices of women, strengthens their leadership, and advocates for policies that protect their rights.

At its core, this initiative is about dignity, empowerment, and lasting transformation ensuring that every individual, regardless of gender, has the freedom to dream, thrive, and shape their own future.

Job Summary:

The Province Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Hamro Sahas Programme: Feminist Movement Building for Social Norm Change in Madhesh Province. The role involves coordinating project activities, engaging stakeholders, ensuring timely delivery of project objectives, and monitoring progress. The Province Coordinator will work closely with consortium partners, local authorities, and community groups to promote gender equality and eliminate harmful social practices such as dowry, child marriage, and gender-based violence.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Implementation & Coordination

  • Lead the implementation of project activities in Dhanusha and Bara districts as per the work plan.
  • Supervise and support Field Coordinators, trainers, and other project staff in executing awareness campaigns, workshops, and advocacy programs.
  • Ensure alignment of project activities with Maiti Nepal’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Organize and facilitate capacity-building sessions for local stakeholders, including community leaders, youth groups, and government officials.

2. Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local government agencies, community-based organizations, and consortium partners (WDSC & SDRC).
  • Engage men and boys as allies in gender equality initiatives and promote positive masculinity.
  • Collaborate with faith-based leaders and local influencers to challenge harmful gender norms.
  • Represent Maiti Nepal at local and regional meetings, advocacy forums, and policy discussions.

3. Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Track key performance indicators, ensuring project milestones are met within timelines.
  • Conduct community feedback sessions and document insights for program improvement.
  • Prepare and submit monthly progress reports to the Project Director and donors.
  • Work with the M&E team to collect baseline and end-line data for impact assessment.

4. Capacity Building & Training

  • Organize training programs for project staff and community volunteers on gender equality, safeguarding, and advocacy strategies.
  • Provide technical support to partner organizations in program delivery and risk management.
  • Facilitate policy dialogues and focus group discussions to inform gender-transformative interventions.

5. Risk Management & Sustainability

  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to safeguarding and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) policies.
  • Support the integration of gender-transformative approaches into local policies and community structures.
  • Foster networks for peer learning and knowledge sharing among community organizations.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in program coordination, community mobilization, or gender advocacy.
  • Proven track record in leading multi-stakeholder projects in marginalized communities.
  • Strong understanding of gender equality, social norms, and human rights frameworks.
  • Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or UN agencies.
  • Excellent communication skills in Nepali and Maithili; proficiency in English is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, and team management skills.
  • Ability to work in challenging field conditions and travel extensively within the province.

Preferred Skills & Attributes:

  • Experience in gender-based violence prevention, positive masculinity programs, or feminist movement building.
  • Ability to conduct policy analysis and engage in advocacy initiatives.
  • Proficiency in using M&E tools for tracking program impact.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to ethical leadership and gender justice.
  • Strong understanding of the local context and demographics in Madhesh Province, including cultural sensitivities and social structures.
