Handicap International Federation (HI) is an independent and impartial aid organization, created in 1982, working across 63 countries. HI works alongside the vulnerable populations, whatever the context, taking action to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. Present in Nepal since 2000, HI works through a network of local partner organizations in the area of health and physical rehabilitation, inclusive education and resilience including emergency response to improve the living conditions and involvement of the most vulnerable populations in Nepal.
Among one of its ongoing projects, this education project is under Task Order 53 under the Disability Inclusive Development (DID) Program, funded by FCDO, aims to promote equitable access to quality education and demonstrate learning achievements in basic-level grades for girls and boys with disabilities, including those with complex disabilities, as well as other children with learning support needs. HI Nepal invites applications for the following position:
1. Project Officer (Inclusion and OPD Engagement) – 1 position
Terms & Conditions: Fixed term contract till September 2025
Location: Bharatpur, Chitwan, Nepal
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to planning and preparing activities, tools, and resources for the TO53 DID project; implement the action plan in collaboration with support services and the technical unit
- Develop and implement a capacity-building plan for OPDs, in collaboration with consortium partners and in consensus with OPD representatives, to enhance institutional capacity and ensure effective participation in DID program activities
- Provide 100% field-based technical and process facilitation support to project partners and stakeholders, guiding inclusive education implementation and aligning with project goals
- Provide technical input on designing, developing, and producing effective social communication and IEC awareness tools for sector activities
- Develop and implement a capacity-building plan for OPDs, in collaboration with consortium partners and in consensus with OPD representatives, to enhance institutional capacity and ensure effective participation in DID program activities
- Organize, liaise, and ensure OPD participation in various training and orientation programs supporting TO53’s capacity-building initiatives
- Support the preparation of success stories, lessons learned, and knowledge management materials in coordination with the Project Manager, PO-Technical, Project Operations Supervisor, and MEL Officer
- Ensure that OPDs are actively engaged in TO53 by supporting regular coordination meetings with OPDs, parents, and other stakeholders to facilitate inclusive education practices
- Contribute to project monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning
- Compile and manage project data within relevant databases, including information on field implementation activities
- Support for the coordination meetings between project teams and support services to align field-level implementation with TO53’s inclusive education goals
- Represent the TO53 project objectives in external networks and communicate progress to partners, authorities, and stakeholders, especially OPDs and it’s network
- Contribute to HI’s emergency preparedness initiatives and adjust field activities as necessary to support an effective response in emergency situations, ensuring the needs of persons with disabilities are prioritized in any humanitarian response
- Any other duty and support at the service of the organization, as requested by line manager
Qualification and Skills Required:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Science, Management, Arts or related field
- Minimum 4 years of working experience in development organization in similar role
- Working experience in education/inclusive education projects is preferred
- Knowledge on concept of Inclusion and knowledge on disability sector
- Proficient in planning, design and facilitation of capacity building training
- Reporting and documentation skill
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong coordination and networking skills
