Position: Project Officer (forest and conservation)

Duty station: Kanchenjunga Conservation Area,Taplejung

Duration: 2 years, with three months probation period

Reports to: Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council (KCAMC)  

Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council (KCAMC) and Samriddha Pahad is implementing the “Samriddha Kanchenjunga Program” (SKP), in Kanchenjunga Conservation Area (KCA) in Taplejung district, which seeks to foster the development of the Kanchenjunga region through a five-pillar approach: (i) environmental conservation and biodiversity, (ii) sustainable tourism infrastructure, (iii) community human capital development, (iv) smart technology integration, and (v) destination promotion. This initiative aims to attract more visitors to the region, promote environmental and conservation efforts, and enhance the income of local communities.

SKP is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Project Officer (Forest and Conservation) who is responsible for the efficient and timely execution of the Samriddha Kanchenjunga Program activities and KCAMC's regular activities at the district level. S/he will work closely with KCAMC and Samriddha Pahad, to provide necessary support to execute assigned activities. 

Key Responsibilities
Qualification and Skills
  1. Assist KCAMC management and board in executing the activities in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. 
  2. Liaise with line agencies for effective implementation of activities as assigned by the KCMAC management and board. 
  3. Organize and facilitate different surveys, assessments, research, workshops, trainings and meetings in the district/s, including the exposure visits.
  4. Closely coordinate with Samriddha Pahad and its partners to conduct the activities inline with the “Samriddha Kanchenjunga Program”. 
  5. Support and mobilize experts while conducting resource inventory in the KCA. 
  6. Conduct monitoring visit in the KCA region as per the KCAMC guidelines.
  1. Minimum BSC in forestry with at least 2 years or Masters in Forestry with one year of experience in the relevant field or equivalent to related subjects
  2. Knowledge on National Parks, Conservation Areas, community forestry and resource inventory.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills in English and Nepali;
  4. Must be proficient in facilitating communication and coordination with both domestic and international researchers/consultants in English and Nepali languages.
  5. Must be able to coordinate with stakeholders, communities, and consultants effectively.
  6. Must be able to prepare reports in both Nepali and English.
  7. Good computer skills including MS package, proficient in using email and creating PowerPoint presentations for effective delivery.
  8. Must be capable of trekking in high-altitude regions to perform assigned tasks.
  9. Must possess problem-solving and coordination skills.
