Established on 11 February, 2000, Multidisciplinary Institute for Livelihood Enhancement and Natural Resource Management (MILAN) envisages to create prosperous and equitable societies by providing quality services on human right protection, environment, livelihood, health and nutrition and women empowerment. The organization was registered at the District Administrative Office, Myagdi in 2056 BS and affiliation number of social welfare council is 10813. The major program areas attended on, in collaboration with different donors, were: Livelihood, Women Economic Empowerment, Health and Nutrition, Infrastructure Development, Forest Management, Climate Change, GBV, Disaster, Good Governance, Women Health, Poverty Alleviation and School Education for girls. Alongside, the organization has been implementing project with huge respect of marginalized people, women, disable persons and low income generating group.

After federalism, MILAN has been working in closed coordination of local levels with promoting integrated community approaches for community development and prosperous by utilizing the expertise of the organization.

Project Overview

FSN-IL aims to strengthen the supply chain of nutrient-dense vegetables and fruits in rural markets of Nepal through technology commercialization. The project will demonstrate a strong business case for the adoption and use of Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) and a wide range of cold and dry storage technologies among market actors for increased income, decreased postharvest loss and improved availability of nutrient-dense food in the rural mountainous markets in Nepal. The project will use a market systems development (MSD) approach to codesign commercially viable business models with the private sector using a risk-sharing approach to incentivize investments in R&D and technology scaling. The project will identify and invest in business opportunities for local youth and women, supporting small- and medium-enterprises in rural markets that can also benefit from the use of these postharvest and food processing technologies.

Key Project Goal/Aim: The goal is to strengthen the supply chain of nutrient-dense vegetables and fruits in rural Nepal markets by facilitating technology commercialization with three specific outcomes

Project: Food System and Nutrition Innovation Lab (FSNIL): Empowering and Innovative Designing for Protecting Nutrient Dense Food: Rural Market Development Project

Duration: One- year fixed contract with possible extension. The contract would be provided after satisfactory performance in three- month probation period 

Work Hours: Full- time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent partner NGO to lead “Empowering and Innovative Designing for Protecting Nutrient Dense Food: Rural Market Development” project in project sites for effective planning and implementation of field level activities in collaboration and consultation with iDE Nepal.
  • Plan, implement, monitor, and report project activities aligned with project objectives and as per detailed implementation plan.
  • Facilitate the project team (within the NGO) to work in close coordination with local government and coordinate with them for joint planning and implementation of the field level activities.
  • Ensure capacity building of the staff for the effective implementation of the project activities.
  • Work closely and in collaboration with project partners and private sector organization to achieve the desired project objectives.
  • Documents case studies, good practices and lessons learned in the timely manner and share it with the concerned stakeholders and project team.
  • Prepare periodic/quarterly plan with district team and facilitate its timely and effective implementation in compliance with planning in DIP and DIG to achieve the expected result indicated in MEAL framework.
  • Ensure appropriate fund allocation and expenditure on a quarterly basis and periodic review of project’s Budget versus Achievements to take corrective measures by revisiting plans and communicating timely with iDE Nepal.
  • Monitor project’s financial position, and ensure the best use of available resources. This includes overseeing the development and review of the project annual budget, review of financial transactions and reports, and review and follow-up on internal and external audit findings/recommendations.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to field level staffs in the planning, implementation and monitoring of activities and project plan as per the given guidelines and planning.
  • Ensure that the programs have minimum quality standards in place and the cross-cutting themes of GESI, Governance, safeguarding are exclusively followed at all levels.
  • Identify best practices, challenges and issues around project implementation and work toward finding solutions for improvements, documentation, and dissemination in consultation with relevant departments.
  • Coordination and collaboration with Local Government, civil society and private stakeholders for leveraging of program fund, sharing and replication of best practices
  • Responsible for timely preparation of comprehensive and analytic reports and submission to iDE Nepal in line with agreed reporting timeframes.
  • In collaboration with iDE’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) team, ensure that proper monitoring and evaluation systems are in place to demonstrate project impact and to ensure that programmatic lessons are used to generate a knowledge base for improved project practice and learning.
  • Promote the donor branding and visibility as per the donor requirement.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the organization and immediate supervisor.

Academic qualifications and experience:

Bachelor's degree in agriculture, business administration or marketing with at least 3 years of working experience in planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of agriculture, markets/value-chain and livelihood project. Higher degree in agriculture with similar experience will be given priority and training certificate in Market System Development is a plus.

Required skills and competencies:

  • Prior experience in working in the development sector with an NGO and experience in strategic work planning processes, team building, and financial management.
  • Familiarity with project cycle management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Knowledge on post-harvest practices and technologies in agriculture, high value and nutritious fruits and vegetables production, supply chain management, etc.
  • Experience in delivery of field-level extension activities, developing content and organizing training and training delivery.
  • Experience on value chain development, small agro-enterprise and market system development.
  • Experience in working with entrepreneurs, farmers group, cooperatives and CBOs.
  • Strong analytic and experience in writing high quality reports.  
  • Team player with strong interpersonal, self-awareness, communication, negotiation, facilitation and representation skills.  
  • Valid motorbike/scooter driving license are preferred. 

Language Proficiency:

Good spoken and written skills in both English and Nepali languages.
