Farmers for Rural Development (FRDEV)

Farmers for Rural Development (FRDEV) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to livelihood improvement of rural farmers. FRDEV aims to promote sustainable agriculture and improve well being of the farmers. FRDEV empower farmers with access to improved and modern technology, access to credit, trainings, and helping farmers to mitigate occupational and environmental risks.

Details / requirements:

Farmers for Rural Development (FRDEV) is looking for the Project Coordinator (PC), who will work on the project “Towards More Sustainable Food Value Chains in Nepal (SFVC)”. This project is supported by the INGO Triangle Génération Humanitaire (TGH) in consortium with Médecins du Monde (MdM). The main objective of the project is to transform the current agricultural production and distribution system in at least four municipalities of Ramechhap, Kavre and Sindhupalchok districts through strategies and models of healthy, sustainable and alternative agriculture. This initiative will support medium-term changes in agricultural practices, food markets and the integration of protection and health of targeted beneficiaries. The development and strengthening of agricultural cooperatives will contribute to the creation of economic opportunities, poverty reduction and adaptation to climate change. The project will support the transition to a greener economy, based on the "Farm to Fork" and "One Health" principles. In addition, through the promotion of a risk reduction approach to occupational exposures and the implementation of occupational health services, the health of agricultural cooperative members and their communities will be improved. Advocacy will be implemented on the economic and health aspects to ensure the sustainability of the project. 

General objective of the position: The Project Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating, supporting, and supervising the planning, implementation and management of overall project activities and overall M&E of the project contributing to the outcomes and outputs of all project components.

Location: Dhulikhel, Kavre, Bagmati Province with occasional visit to Kathmandu and frequent field trips in other project sites – Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality, Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality, and Mandandeupur Municipality.

Line Responsible: Executive Director, FRDEV 

Works in collaboration with:   TGH/MDM Project Team

Functional Link: The PC works under the responsibility of the Executive Director of FRDEV. In addition, the PC works in close collaboration with the Consortium Coordinator and Project Manager of TGH to implement the project, the MDM  Health Activity Manager, and mobilize a team of Entrepreneurship Development Officer, Public Health Officer, Admin & Finance Officer, 3-4 JTA and 4 Community focal points.


Major duties and responsibilities of the position:

Project management /implementation

  • Ensure effective and efficient planning and implementation of the activities under the project objectives, results, indicators, and strategy with desired output within the approved time frame of the project document, budget, and work plan, 
  • Ensure that the project objectives and targets are achieved in a timely manner and that activities are carried out according to standards.
  • Prepare and execute monthly activity plans as per the ToR in accordance with the project's logical framework.
  • Take a lead role in managing and implementing the project, benefiting the target population in the project areas.
  • Supervision and mobilization of the project team, organizing regular meetings within the project team, sharing relevant information with TGH/MDM project team, Executive Director, and the Executive Committee to discuss the problems and solutions and create a constructive work environment.
Coordination, Liaison, Communication, and Representation
  • Ensure the good coordination, communication, and collaboration with the Wards and Municipalities/Rural Municipalities of respective intervention areas. 
  • Communication and coordination with partner agriculture cooperatives, government authorities (Ward, Municipalities), donor agencies, and other relevant stakeholders, for better implementation of the project interventions.
  • Maintain relationships with the project beneficiaries, local, and provincial government authorities, and other relevant stakeholders ensuring that transparency at all levels is maintained and project information communicated to relevant stakeholders in a timely fashion. 
  • Representation in local, provincial and national level forum, meeting and workshop.
  • Participate during the visit organized by KTM level authorities and during the visit from HQ. 
Capacity building and conflict management 
  • Identify the necessary training required for the project staff.
  • Take lead role in capacity building of project staffs and stakeholders
  • Be proactive in identification of any conflicts and assist field team to manage it
Monitoring and Reporting: 
  • Implement and follow up effective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms in coordination with the TGH/MDM and the project staff to ensure project objective and result framework.
  • Organize field visits, gather information, and prepare high-quality learning documents and reports as per the donor’s and SWC requirements, and timely submit them to related stakeholders.
  • Document the innovative approaches, best practices, lessons learned, and case studies in coordination with the documentation team, document progress and learning, and share them at appropriate level.
  • Contribute to developing guidelines, templates, training, and support to project members involved in data collection, and ensure the monitoring tools are operated correctly.
  • Ensure that the project participants and stakeholders are well aware of the organization's complaint-handling mechanism, and they have good access to reporting and responding to their complaints in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure the necessary meetings in local level like Local Project Advisory Committee Meetings, Social Audits and Public Hearing as per the Project Guideline.
  • Ensure the reflection of Project Plans in Municipalities Annual Plan (Red Book). 
Budgeting 
  • Participate in the Forecast and Budget Follow Up.
  • Ensure the necessary documentation related to the expenses. 
These roles and responsibilities are not exhaustive and can be adjusted based on on-going FRDEV needs. 

Experience and qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Development studies or relevant field with minimum three years’ experience in relevant area or Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with five years of experience in relevant area.
  • Have an experience in field level work at least 3 years as Project Coordinator.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in program planning and implementation of sustainable/organic agriculture programs and climate-smart agriculture technology.
  • Strong willingness to work with diverse communities, farmers' groups, and less advantaged /marginalized communities.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in working with agriculture cooperatives and the local government authorities.
  • Proven knowledge and skills for managing teams and mobilization.
  • Must possess good skills in report preparation, facilitating leveraging of resources from other agencies and training and interpersonal communication. 
  • Fluency in both spoken and written Nepali and English languages is essential.
  • Good command of computer skills including email, internet, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database management and reporting.
  • License holder of 2 wheeler (preferred motorbike).
  • Ability to work with field teams/partners remotely when required.
