Program Coordinator-Anticipation Action
Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction (IHRR) is an organization established with an objective to assess and understand the risk to contribute to sustainability. Complying with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction(SFDRR), IHRR envisions to understand the risk and application of interdisciplinary knowledge with Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation to contribute for risk reduction and bridging of academic research with professionals and policymakers for sustainability. The team consists of professionals with expertise and experiences in the field of disaster risk management in understanding the risk, conducting academic research, and field-level implementations in Nepal and different parts of the world.

Position: Program Coordinator-Anticipation Action
Location: Rautahat (On-site as required)
Reports to: Senior Technical Officer/ Executive Director
Duration: 10 months
Nepal is exposed to multiple hydro-meteorological and geological hazards. According to the vulnerability and risk assessment report 2021, climate extreme events have the greatest impact on Madhesh province, and all its districts have experienced high to extremely high extreme events. Madhesh Province has a Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) of 21.84, which indicates a very high vulnerability to natural disasters such as floods, drought, storms, and cold waves. Thousands of people face displacement, loss of lives and property due to the lack of preparedness, early warning and early actions by the authorities to control natural disasters.
- Establishing and strengthening women-led early warning and action mechanisms in Durga Bhagwati Rural Municipality and Raj Devi Municipality.
- Promoting women’s leadership in community-level CDMCs.
- Strengthening of the first responder capacity of women and WLOs
- Advocate and lobby with government decision-makers to secure resources for women-led early warning actions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Disaster Risk Management, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Agriculture, Rural Development, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred or considered an asset.
- At least 2–3 years of experience in the field of disaster risk reduction, humanitarian response, anticipatory action, or community-based resilience programs.
- Experience in community engagement, early warning dissemination, or risk communication at the local level is essential.
- Proven experience in facilitating local-level planning, conducting field assessments, and coordinating with local governments and stakeholders.
- Experience in working with vulnerable groups, including women, children, and marginalized communities, in risk-sensitive contexts.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present findings to diverse audiences.
- Experience working with development partners, government agencies, NGOs, and community-based projects is desirable.
