Program Associate-Wildlife Trade Monitoring, Eastern TAL

The Program Associate – Wildlife Trade Monitoring will be responsible for the implementation of wildlife conservation and protection work in Terai Arc Landscape (TAL) and this position will be instrumental in advancing our conservation efforts, particularly in combating wildlife trade and safeguarding endangered species. S/he will also be responsible for making close contact and coordination with the TAL offices as well as Protected Areas (PAs), Division Forest Offices (DFOs), and other enforcement agencies of the government of Nepal together with community-based organizations, especially CBAPUs, local NGOs/CBOs, and partners. This position will contribute to ensuring the successful implementation of the activities in the field giving quality results. The position will be based in Eastern TAL.

Working Relationships:
Internal: Closely works with Wildlife Trade Monitoring Unit and TAL Office, Interacts frequently with other program staff and field staff.
External: Interacts frequently with Community-based Organizations, government enforcement agencies, Local Government, and NGOs.
Qualifications
Knowledge: A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, wildlife conservation, protected area management, Natural resource Management, Environmental science, or related fields with a sound understanding of wildlife conservation, environmental protection, Protected Areas Systems, Species Conservation, and Community mobilization. A Master’s degree in the above fields is preferred.
Experience: Should have a strong knowledge of species issues, especially conservation and protection of species, human-wildlife conflict, wildlife crime, and Community engagement with at least 2 years experience in related fields. The individual must be technically proficient and qualified in the conservation field.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision in the field and the office.
- Must be computer literate and use appropriate technology to present to partners and stakeholders.
- Good written and spoken skills in Nepali and English.
- Good interpersonal skills, innovative thinking, versatile ability to work in a team and work independently.
- Good understanding of current issues especially knowledge of environmental and conservation issues.
- Willing to travel as and when required.
