Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction (IHRR) is an organization established with an objective to assess and understand the risk to contribute to sustainability. Complying with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction(SFDRR), IHRR envisions to understand the risk and application of interdisciplinary knowledge with Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation to contribute for risk reduction and bridging of academic research with professionals and policymakers for sustainability. The team consists of professionals with expertise and experiences in the field of disaster risk management in understanding the risk, conducting academic research, and field-level implementations in Nepal and different parts of the world.

Job Summary:

IHRR has developed an award-winning digital platform that leverages spatial technologies to assess risks, analyze the impacts of climate change, and enhance disaster risk management. By integrating predictive modeling, our platform enables anticipatory actions, empowering stakeholders with data-driven, proactive decision-making tools. Currently, the platform is operational in Nepal, Bangladesh, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), showcasing its adaptability and effectiveness across diverse regions.

We are seeking a Product Lead to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in shaping and advancing the product’s vision. Your responsibilities will include translating strategic objectives into actionable plans, ensuring successful implementation, and driving customization and scalability across various operational contexts. 

Key responsibility: 

  • Vision and Strategy Communication: Understand the vision from the board of directors, absorb it, and clearly communicate this vision internally and externally. 
  • Strategic Planning: Translate the overarching strategy into actionable roadmaps and goals. 
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders across different regions to gather and prioritize product requirements and enhancements. 
  • Requirements Elicitation: Identify and gather requirements through various methods including brainstorming, stakeholder interviews, event participation, document analysis, and extensive research. 
  • Requirements Documentation: Identify and document both functional and non-functional requirements in a clear, concise, and comprehensive manner. 
  • Project Management: Develop detailed timelines for product development with achievable milestones, working closely with cross-functional teams. 
  • Technical Feasibility: Evaluate analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions to determine technical feasibility. 
  • Impact Analysis: Analyze the impact of new requirements and changes, estimating the effort needed for delivery. 
  • Software Design Participation: Participate in the software design process with the development team. 
  • Documentation: Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, and code comments. 
  • Product Backlog Management: Build and prioritize the product backlog, populate it with user stories, and define their acceptance criteria. 
  • Backlog Grooming: Conduct backlog grooming and management, iteration planning, and elaboration of user stories. 
  • Community Impact Analysis: Monitor and evaluate the product’s impact on communities, focusing on improvements in disaster anticipation, preparedness, response, and humanitarian aid effectiveness. 
  • Advocacy and Representation: Represent the organization and Product in public forums, workshops, and conferences to promote the adoption and impact of the digital solution.

Competencies and personal specification: 

  • Proactiveness and Hunger for innovation is the must.
  • Good writing and communication skills (English and Nepali both written and spoken) with proactive mindsets.  
  • Willingness to learn and update continuously, Co-create solutions and co-create ideas.
  • Strong conceptual, and interpersonal communication, negotiation, facilitation, and representation skills with working experiences in areas of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction (is an added advantage)
  • Demonstration skills, and experience in leading a team, engaging in the campaigns and initiatives, building relationships, working in partnership with local government, and civil society organizations, and maintaining the congenial working relationship with all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skills in team building with an ability to coach and mentor the project team.  
  • Proven knowledge and skills in program planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Proven experience in working with diverse communities, cultures, and the ability to cope with stress and decision-making with appropriate communication. 
Education/Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related fields.
  • Proven experience as a Product Owner, Project Manager, or in a similar leadership role within software development projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of and passion for digital public goods, social impact, and technology's role in humanitarian contexts.

Remuneration Package :
The salary for this position will range from NPR 80,000 to NPR 1,50,000 per month, based on candidate's experience and competencies. Additionally, there is a provision for equity in the company, which will be offered after three years of service, aligning with the organization's long-term growth and your contributions.
