Introduction:

Defence Infrastructure Organization (Nepal) (DIO(N)) British Gurkhas Nepal Kathmandu provide technical/ engineering support to British Gurkhas Nepal, Kathmandu BGN(K) & British Gurkhas Nepal, Dharan BGN(D).  The department's primary output is the delivery of new infrastructure and the management and maintenance of existing infrastructure, including electrical distribution systems, mechanical plant, water treatment facilities, boilers, heating plant and other critical life support infrastructure in support of HQ BGN in Nepal.

This position is advertised at 40 hours per week.

Job description:

  • Plan and carryout masonry work, carpentry and building painting from sketches and working drawings to support response, planned preventive maintenance and minor new works.
  • Carryout installation and repairs on rainwater gutting systems.
  • Executive minor stone soiling work, and brick and block wall construction.
  • Estimate minor RCC and mortar mixtures work, and carryout these works, as required. Finish plastering works.
  • Carryout minor survey relevant to the profession. Complete logbook and inspection sheet, as required.
  • Be able to work at height including building scaffolding and other construction structures.
  • Work in workshops, confined spaces, work at height, accommodation quarters, commercial buildings, and hot and humid kitchens.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed within the required deadlines as set by Key \performance Indicator (KPI) measures or the management team.
  • Proactively report any need for parts, materials, or issues with your work at the earliest opportunity.
  • Always wear the correct Uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), where required, ensuring it is in good condition.
  • Immediately report any unsafe acts, incidents, or accidents.
  • Complete any required training as directed by the management team within the specified timeline.
  • When communicating with clients or customers, maintain a professional demeanour that supports a positive impression of DIO (Nepal).
  • Any other tasks commensurate with grade and competence, as directed by line management.

What you will be doing:

Responsibilities:

  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed.
  • Prepare timber and other materials for use (cut, shape and smooth), manufactures joints, use adhesive, produce windows, door frames, door linings and internal joinery fitments.
  • Repair/replace PVC/UPVC doors, windows and ventilations, and its fittings and fixtures.
  • Lay out floorings, roofing or drywells ensuring they are levelled and compatible.
  • Carve and assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves, and other items and install them where designated.
  • Craft furniture with fine detail work and/or utmost sturdiness and quality. Install fire doors, as required.
  • Paint surfaces by washing walls, repairing holes, or removing old paint.
  • Mix, match, and apply paints and other finishes to various surfaces.
  • Provide decorative and faux finishes as the work requires.
  • Carryout minor survey relevant to the profession. Complete logbook and inspection sheet, as required.
  • Conduct repairs of PVC/UPVC doors and windows.
  • Carryout repairs of brick, block and stone walls and floors.
  • Install repair false ceiling and gypsum boards.

You must have:

  • Good written/ spoken English and Nepali language skills.
  • Served a minimum of 3 years as a multi-skilled worker, semi-skilled labour, or have served a recognised apprenticeship or be able to demonstrate experience up to the equivalent standard.
  • Hold minimum CTEVT’s level II qualification/s in relevant construction engineering as described above.
  • Proven experience, qualifications, and training is preferable for this role to deliver the job responsibility effectively and efficiently. Any other multi-skilled qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • You will be assessed on your competency through an assessment including written, practical and interview test. College level (+2) or minimum SEE education with extensive work experience, skills and technical qualifications is preferred.

  • Salary 91,289.00 NPR per month (Permanent).
