Initially for 1 year, including a 3 month probation period, with possibility of extension.
Background

Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) Nepal was founded in 2003 and has since established a reputation as one of the leading clinical research groups in Nepal. There has been considerable investment in upgrading the laboratories and in training young Nepalese clinicians and scientists. The main research focus is on the most common infectious diseases affecting the Nepalese population with a major focus on undifferentiated febrile illnesses and antimicrobial resistance.

Key responsibilities and tasks
  • Assessment of the patients of in outpatient clinics- take proper history, perform clinical examinations, evaluate medical reports, prescribe medications, referral to other departments, if necessary, enrollment in the ongoing studies and follow-up 
  • Explain about ongoing studies to the patients and take consent for their participation in the studies.
  • Strictly follow protocols of the ongoing studies
  • Counseling the patient and follow-up of the study patient
  • Documentation of patient details in Clinical Record Form (CRF) / eCRFfor the enrollees in the studies.
  • Assist and supervise research nurses and community medical auxiliaries (CMA) to take the sample and advising them whenever needed.
  • Maintain good- co-ordination among the colleagues, seniors, juniors and the patient.
  • Be curious to learn new information and skills, read and study, be disciplined to the goals of the organization and be a good member of the team
  • Communicate with OUCRU Nepal team responsible for the study on a weekly basis and discuss updates/problems (Eg. For ACT, the MO from site Hospital should coordinate with the designated MO from OUCRU Nepal for the specific study)
  • Coordinate with the Supervisor/Project Manager if needed to discuss any dilemmas on clinical conditions or queries on enrollment
Selection criteria
  • Should have an M.B.B.S. degree with Nepal Medical Council registration
  • Preferably one-year experience of clinical exposure as a medical officer
