MEDIA ACTION NEPAL, established in 2015, is a non-governmental organization (NGO) promoting freedom of expression, press freedom, and media development in Nepal through research, policy dialogue,  advocacy, and capacity-building of journalists. 

A member of global press freedom and media development networks, including the Media Freedom Coalition-Consultative Network (MFC-CN), the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD), and the ACOS Alliance, Media Action Nepal advocates for the rights and safety of journalists as well as for inclusive newsrooms. Our evidence-backed interventions have earned us solid networks and partnerships nationally, regionally, and globally.

Currently, Media Action Nepal is seeking a Local Peace Expert (LPE) for a media and peace-building project supported by GIZ-CPS. We are looking for a passionate, self-motivated, and hardworking individual well-experienced in project management, fund raising, communication, and coordination, with an in-depth knowledge of Nepali media, CSOs, youth engagement, and conflict sensitivity.

Required Number: 1

Duration: 1 year with a 3-month probation period

Location: Based in Kathmandu with travel to districts and provinces 

Job Type: Full-time 

Expected date of joining the office: April 1, 2025

Terms of Reference (ToR) of the Local Peace Expert (LPE):

  • Conceptualize and develop concept notes and proposals, explore partnerships, and contribute to fundraising efforts of Media Action Nepal. 
  • Draft proposals and reports for the project implemented by Media Action Nepal in cooperation with GIZ-CPS.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between Media Action Nepal and GIZ-CPS, including timely sharing of information and reports with the partners.
  • Participate in project meetings, workshops, trainings, and events, and carry out relevant administrative tasks.
  • Provide support in conducting research and drafting briefing notes on relevant subjects and needs.
  • Contribute to public relations for GIZ-CPS and develop materials concerning the project.
  • Develop terms of references (ToRs) for consultants, plan, and coordinate project activities.
  • Prepare reports, including documentation of project-related activities.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with international media rights organizations, including follow-ups to explore partnerships.
  • Lead outreach and communication efforts related to the project.
  • Any other business/work assigned by Media Action Nepal.

  • Strong dedication to work with minimum monitoring and guidance.
  • Self-motivated and creative.
  • Working knowledge of the civic space and the media and CSOs working environment.

Educational Background, Skills, and Experience:

A. Education:

  • Master’s level education, preferably in Journalism/Mass Communications or Peace and Conflict Studies, Law, Social Work or Gender Studies 

B. Experience:

  • Minimum three years of work experience in media/journalism, national/international not-for-profit organizations, preferably in the area of project management, partnership-building, fund raising, advocacy, and writing proposals contributing to peace-building.
  • Knowledge of national conflict and peace-building contexts, human rights and press freedom 
  • Experience in facilitating workshops, meetings and consultations 
  • Proficient in using computers and office software packages, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools. 
  • Skilled in managing virtual platforms, conducting webinars, and utilizing digital tools for effective communication and project management.
  • Experience in networking with government and non-governmental agencies.

C. Language:

  • Fluency in English and Nepali, both in writing and speaking. 
  • Experienced in translating and editing documents from Nepali to English and vice versa. 

Candidates awaiting the result of their Master’s degree or having less than three years of experience are not eligible to apply.
