Nepal Youth Foundation Nepal (NYF Nepal) is a non-profit organization working for the rights and welfare of the underprivileged children and youth of Nepal through educational, health, and other humanitarian projects.
NYF Nepal for one of its prominent program “Ankur Counseling & Training Centre” (Ankur) is seeking an experienced and self-motivated candidate for the position of “Intern Counselor”. This position is based at Lalitpur Metropolitan City-22, Chunikhel, Bungamati.
Position: Intern Counselor (2)
Purpose of the position:
To provide psychosocial counseling, maintaining an emphasis on underprivileged children, and youth and enable them to fulfill their potential.
Major duties and responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and execute monthly counseling schedules. Conduct group counseling sessions on various concerns such as developmental issues, trauma, HIV, and abuse (physical, emotional, and sexual). Track client progress from initial referral through assessment and prepare a further treatment plan, process the counseling, and closure of sessions. Complete client files in a standard manner. Keep timely and accurate statistics for reports.
- Facilitate counseling and therapeutic interventions for groups as required, such as Self Esteem, Healing from abuse groups, Bullying, Motivational session, Stress Management
- Assist visiting sr. counselor/counselor, volunteers, and/or researchers as required. Participate and collaborate with team members and foster team spirit.
- Carry out the administrative/other supporting tasks as assigned by supervisor for smooth functioning of Project.
JOB SPECIFICATION:
Qualification: Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology
Required skills and behavioral attributes:
- Flexibility to adapt to changes as per work situations.
- Positive attitude, exhibit professionalism and maintain high work standards.
- Sound communication (oral, written)/interpersonal skills with research orientation to conduct training in different topics as per the need such as: Parenting skills, Child Protection, Basic Counseling Skills, Sex and Sexuality, Self-Awareness.
- Ability to manage, organize tasks and work under pressure/handle various situations.
- Ability to work closely with people/colleagues as part of a team.
- Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.
- Possess a self-learning attitude and monitoring one’s own work schedule while fulfilling the responsibilities and duties of the job description.
- Demonstrate sound practical skills as required for counseling practices.
- Be updated and have general knowledge of child/youth-specific counseling areas (trauma, abuse, Emotional, Behavioral and Social issues).
- Able to assess and design orientations/trainings program as per need for core beneficiaries/community
Interest: Should take interest in socializing and dealing with youth and children coming from different ethnic backgrounds, dealing with genders and different sexual orientations.
