About CSC
Founded in 2015, Centre for Social Change (CSC) is a Kathmandu-based social think-tank working on issues around conflict prevention, governance, and peacebuilding. CSC setup a creative environment to work within a strong methodological framework for evidence-based policy advocacy. The foundational work of CSC is to generate data based on research and assist to design the people-centric policy and programs in local and national level.
Job Profile
The role of Research officer involves a dynamic blend of qualitative research design and a program implementation. Research officer will be responsible for designing tools for qualitative research and liaise with research team member on Governance Monitoring Centre, Climate Justice and other research areas. Research officer will also be responsible on conducting literature reviews, assisting in data collection and analysis, and contributing to the preparation of research reports and knowledge materials as apart of research. Similarly, implementation of project related activities in the CSC project locations on Climate Justice and Environment Peacebuilding as a part of the program.
Major responsibilities and deliverables:
a. Research:
- Design and implement research projects related to climate justice, peacebuilding, environmental peacebuilding impacts on target groups.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret qualitative (mostly) and quantitative data (if needed) from various sources.
- Stay updated on current trends, theories, and methodologies in social science and climate change.
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to inform research projects, project proposals and policy recommendations.
b. Policy Analysis:
- Analyze existing policies related to governance and climate change, assessing their effectiveness and impact on peacebuilding efforts, focusing on the climate-governance-peace nexus.
- Provide recommendations for policy improvements based on research findings and disseminate them among key stakeholders.
c. Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with governmental agencies, NGOs, and community organizations and local citizens to gather insights and data.
- Facilitate workshops and discussions to promote knowledge exchange, gained from research and build partnerships with stakeholders, community and other likeminded organizations.
d. Knowledge Production and Publications:
- Prepare high-quality research reports, policy briefs, and presentations for diverse audiences.
- Clearly communicate complex ideas and findings to stakeholders as well as general public.
e. Program Implementation:
- Coordinate with stakeholders and target groups in organizing dialogues, workshops, orientations, and relevent events as per the project demand.
- Assist Field officers and other team members in implementing project activities and stakeholders engagement.
- Support the team members is writing reports to donors and government requirements.
f. Teamwork:
- Provide to or seek support with team members and partners on research methodologies, data analysis and other designated tasks.
- Promote a culture of learning and continuous improvement within CSC.
- Willingness to travel to different parts of Nepal, as required by the research activities.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Development Studies or Social Sciences and other related field.
- At least 1-2 years of research experience in the related areas with master’s and 3-4 years with bachelors.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking creative writing skills.
- Proficiency in qualitative research methods.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Awareness of current global challenges in Environment, Climate, Peacebuilding and Sustainable Development.
