Samari Utthan Sewa (SUS) is a non-government and not-for-profit organization, founded by a group of youths from the Dalit community in Chitwan. Since its inception in 2008, it has been working to ensure the rights of Dalits and other minority groups based on caste, gender, and sexuality. Due to Its prior experiences regarding sustainable community development, knowledge production, advocacy, and result-based management, it now stands as a leading civil society actor in Nepal. So far, it has contributed to the socio-economic upliftment of 4000 households of Dalit, Chepang, and Santhal tribals associated with 250 Self-help groups, 6 agriculture cooperatives, and 6 community-based organizations under various project interventions.

Samari Utthan Sewa (SUS) is set to implement a project titled "Empowering Climate Migrants in Urban Squatters" from May 1st, 2025, as a pilot project with the possibility of extension for the next three years, in Kathmandu and Madi Municipality, Chitwan. As an impact of the project's intervention, the resilience of vulnerable urban squatter communities to the impacts of climate change is strengthened. The main objective of the project is to alleviate WASH deprivation among climate-vulnerable populations in squatter communities and to enhance access to sustainable livelihood skills, opportunities, and nutritious food for children in climate migrant households. We are looking for dynamic and committed candidates for the following positions:

1. Position: Project Officer

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee project planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Coordinate with local stakeholders and community members.
  • Develop and manage project budgets and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
  • Facilitate training and capacity-building workshops for community members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, Development Studies, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in project management, preferably in slum or urban development projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in report writing and data analysis.

Skills:

  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Knowledge of community mobilization techniques.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation frameworks.

2. Position: Social Mobilizer

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with community members to promote project objectives.
  • Organize community meetings and awareness campaigns.
  • Assist in identifying beneficiaries and mobilizing resources.
  • Collect data and provide feedback on community needs and project impact.
  • Collaborate with local organizations and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • 10+2 or equivalent; a degree in Social Work or related field is a plus.
  • Experience in community mobilization or grassroots organizing.
  • Familiarity with the local context and community dynamics.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.
