The National Alliance of Women Human Rights Defenders (NAWHRD) is a vibrant, strong, and active network established in 2007 AD during the Fourth National Consultation of Women Human Rights Defenders. This event coincided with the second International Women Human Rights Defenders’ Day, marking its dedication to the feminist perspective and the promotion of human rights. Guided by the principles of human rights, democratic values, and practices, NAWHRD is one of the largest existing loose networks advocating for the safety, dignity, and security of Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs).
NAWHRD’s vision is to create a society where women’s rights are respected, protected, and promoted, enabling them to live with dignity. Its mission includes recognizing women’s work in the protection and promotion of human rights, developing safety mechanisms for WHRDs in both private and public spheres, and ensuring inclusive representation and advocacy for all marginalized groups. 1. Program Officer (1 Position) Women Only:
Location: Kathmandu with frequent visits to district.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Development Studies or Social Work with 3-4 years’ experience in the relevant field. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Prior experience working with Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Able to take all the responsibilities and carry out the activities of the secretariat of NAWHRD.
- Develop and implement detailed program plans and budgets aligned with organizational goals and priorities.
- Monitor, regulate, and optimize communication, including social media channels, for advocacy and outreach.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality program implementation and documentation in alignment with feminist principles.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and civil society organizations, to ensure impactful program delivery.
- Facilitate effective communication with board members, WHRDs and sister organization.
- Document and share achievements, lessons learned, success stories, and feedback of WHRDs
- Prepare and submit high-quality program reports, including analysis of challenges and strategic solutions.
- Represent the organization in external meetings, forums, and advocacy events to promote movements of WHRDs.
- Build and maintain strong networks with government bodies, NGOs, and other key stakeholders.
- Identify funding opportunities and write proposal writing and donor engagement.
- Write press release, attention papers and other relevant documents to highlight the issues of WHRDs in Nepali.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication and writing skills in both Nepali and English.
- Project management skills, including planning, budgeting, and monitoring.
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities to inspire and guide field teams.
- Analytical skills to assess program data and drive evidence-based decisions.
- Gender sensitivity and cultural competence, with an understanding of feminist principles.
- Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation tools, methodologies, and reporting standards.
- Proficiency in using digital tools and software for program management and reporting.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in high-pressure environments.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel to remote areas as required.
