Together Against Childhood Cancer (TACC)

Job Title: Dietitian (Nos. 2)

Direct Manager/Supervisor: Paediatric Oncologist/Pediatric Gastroenterologist – Kanti Children’s Hospital,

Additional Supervisor: TACC

Job Location: Kanti Children’s Hospital, Maharajgunj.

Key Relationships:

  • Nutritional management in paediatric oncology OPD/ward
  • Nutritional management in general OPD/wards and other subspecialities
  • Admin/Finance Officer, Together Against Childhood Cancer (TACC)

Main Purpose

  • To ensure nutritional care and education for inpatient and outpatient children.
  • Services will include performing initial nutrition assessments and intervention with the monitoring and evaluation of intervention in the follow-up. Supervising and coordinating all nutritional interventions. To monitor hospital supplies for nutrition commodities. Develop nutritionally dense homemade supplements for oral intake or use through nasogastric tubes, working in collaboration with the medical team at the hospital.
  • To identify and contribute to best practice, contribute to the development of services, and provide advocacy for patients and their families.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provision of nutritional care and education for inpatient and outpatient children at Kanti Children’s Hospital.
  • Perform initial nutrition assessments and follow up monitoring.
  • Supervising and coordinating all nutritional interventions.
  • Assessing nutritional supplements and modifying as appropriate.
  • Development of nutritionally-dense homemade supplements either for oral intake or use through nasogastric tubes.
  • Patient communication, recruiting and recording.
  • Provide the records to the hospital administration as per need.
  • Data entry and proper maintenance of database (REDCap).
  • Documentation of patient visits/lab reports.
  • Documentation of patient and parent consents/waivers.
  • Ensuring completeness of study data forms.
  • Conducting research in adherence with the ethical standards set forth by the local institution and CUIMC.
  • Attending weekly/bimonthly clinical care meetings with IIPAN global network. 
  • Preparing monthly progress reports and updates and circulate with the KCH, TACC and the global team.  
  • Other duties as assigned by hospital administration.

Educational / Professional Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in:

  • Bachelor in Nutrition and Dietetics/Equivalents

Experience
  • Experience and knowledge of working in a hospital setting with at least one year of experience.  
  • Experience of working with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of working with a diverse group of constituents, awareness and understanding of issues of privilege, oppression, and marginalized communities
  • Knowledge and understanding of Child Safeguarding
  • Experience of working in a hospital setting for more than a year.
Skills / Attributes
  • Basic clinical skills in nutritional assessment and intervention.
  • Ability to have an impactful counselling skill.
  • Self-awareness of one’s own limitations and the awareness of when to seek support or advice from others
  • Cultural awareness and respect for the religious and cultural diversity of children and their families
  • Proven ability to communicate sensitively and effectively at all levels, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to challenge where necessary
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations and offer appropriate support to others
