KOSHISH is an organization of person with disabilities established in 2008 to promote mental health and psychosocial wellbeing in Nepal, with a vision ‘To achieve 'Mental Health and Psychosocial Wellbeing for All’ and mission ‘To ensure a dignified life for people with mental health issues and psychosocial disabilities through harmonization and implementation of laws and policies in line with international human rights standards including UNCRPD and promotion of person-centered right-based community mental health services’.

Position: HR Specialist

We are seeking a dynamic HR Specialist to address the evolving challenges of human resources management within our organization. The primary focus will be on improving performance management system, employee retention, fostering workplace satisfaction, and enhancing motivation at workplace.

Job Description:

The specialist will provide strategic support for addressing the current issues and recommend for necessary amendment of HRM system prevailing at the organization and provide guidance in implementation of those recommendations in practice.

Key Expectations:

  1. Gap Identification: Conducting HR audits to identify key areas for improvement in aspects of HR like Labour Law and Compliance, Recruitment and Selection, Training and Development, Performance Management, Employee Relations, Compensation and Benefits, Payroll and HR Systems.
  2. Performance Management: Advising on current template for yearly performance appraisals, probationary performance plans, performance evaluation metrics, monthly plan and progress, recommending necessary changes and so on
  3. Feedback Mechanism: Develop a system within the organization regarding feedback mechanisms to employees for performance improvement.
  4. Training Need Assessment: Develop a mechanism for identifying the need and providing training to employees for their capacity enhancement. 
  5. Rewards, Promotion and Termination: Develop a standard for providing rewards, promotion of employees and termination of employment.
  6. Policy Amendments: Advising on policy guidelines and making recommendations for necessary amendments to KOSHISH HR Policy 2021.
  7. Change Management: Advising effective ways to introduce changes related to HR such as the latest adoption of HRIS to manage employee records related to leave, attendance, payroll, etc.
  8. Strategic Planning: Advising HR planning and HR strategy formulation in alignment with KOSHISH’s mission and vision, creating employee retention strategies, etc.
  9. Problem Solving: Advising to handle HR issues and taking an effective problem-solving approach especially in sensitive matters like safeguarding, harassment, and the like.
  10. Communication: Develop communication tactics for better ways of information flow from HR such as orientation of new employees.
  11. Staff welfare: Develop a system for promoting staff well-being across the organization and promote a balance of work life.
  12. Overall Recommendations: Recommending overall ways in effective HR management and implementation of policies for smooth organizational functioning.

Expected Skill and Qualification:

  • Master's degree in HRM or any other relevant degree from a recognized university.
  • 10+ years of working experience in the field of Human Resource Management in the development sector. At least 5 years of experience in performance management, strategic HR planning and implementation, organizational governance, and policymaking.
  • Understanding HR principles and knowledge of conducting HR audits in line with labor law guidelines and safeguarding practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating the HR audit for the mental health and disability sector (psychosocial disability) of non-government organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English and Nepali.
  • Ability to function independently and with limited supervision, and governance.
