BEE-Group is an autonomous, independent, non-partisan, nonprofit making independent, non-governmental organization (NGO). It was established in 2000 AD, registered in the District Administration Office, Banke, and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council, Nepal. It is serving in the Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Province of Nepal for the protection and promotion of human rights, environmental conservation, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, building access to quality education, health and WASH services, sustainable livelihoods, and community development. Since it is working on the rights-based approach to issues such as social justice, peace, human rights, environment conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and community development. It works to attain peace, development, and justice through people’s meaningful participation and a bottom-up approach to establishing an equitable, healthy, and self-reliant society by building a trustworthy reputation.
BEE-Group has been implementing a Supporting Occupational and Environmental Health Project in Banke district in partnership with Médecins du Monde- France - Nepal Office. The project aims to strengthen the health system by contributing to the occupational health, promoting a healthy city, urban health, and nutrition. BEE-Group is seeking qualified, experienced, and self-motivated staff for the mentioned project and requests applications from eligible candidates.
Position: Health Advocacy and Communication Officer (HACO) - One
Duty Station: Based at BEE-Group office, Banke and frequent visits to project areas
Reports to: Project Coordinator
Supervises: N/A
Job Summary: The Health Advocacy and Communication Officer will play a role in achieving the project outcomes by contributing to various health advocacy and communications initiatives, for the healthy city approach, environmental health initiatives, event planning, content creation, and media management. This role requires a creative and strategic thinker with strong communication skills and experience in a healthy city approach, occupational and environmental health interventions, advocacy, public relations, and stakeholder engagement. The Health Advocacy and Communication Officer will be directly responsible for establishing strong health advocacy with stakeholders and local governments along with contributing to the project components, i.e., Occupational Health, Healthy City approach, Urban Health and Nutrition by ensuring sound relationship with the community and the Médecins du Monde- France – Nepal Office.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Planning and Implementation of activities regarding Health Advocacy
- Develop and execute health advocacy plans to influence policies and practices in line with project outcomes and impact.
- Identify and engage key stakeholders including government officials, policymakers, community leaders, and partner organizations.
- Organize and participate in advocacy events, workshops, and campaigns to promote project objectives
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health advocacy activities, using feedback and data to inform future strategies.
- Prepare regular reports on communication and advocacy activities, outcomes, and impact for internal and external stakeholders.
2. Communication Strategy and Content Creation
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to promote project goals, enhance public awareness, and support advocacy efforts.
- Develop high-quality communication materials, including brochures, fact sheets, infographics, and videos, to effectively convey project messages.
- Manage content for various communication channels, including social media, letters, newsletters, press releases, and reports
- Ensure all communication materials are culturally sensitive, accurate, and aligned with the organization's branding guidelines
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and journalists to ensure adequate coverage of project initiatives and achievements
- Draft and distribute press releases, media briefs, and opinion pieces to highlight project achievements and key messages
- Monitor media coverage and analyze its impact on public perception and advocacy efforts
3. Stakeholder Engagement
- Assist in organizing internal events, campaigns, and initiatives that promote employee participation and morale
- Foster and maintain relationships with stakeholders to build a network of support for project initiatives
- Coordinate meetings, briefings, and consultations with stakeholders to discuss project progress and advocacy priorities
- Represent the organization at relevant forums, conferences, and events
4. Project Implementation and Management
- Responsible for the quality implementation of SOEH project health interventions including healthy city approach, environmental and urban health interventions as per donor guidance and compliances
- Work in coordination with the government and line agencies to implement the project in targeted sites and to foster long-term impact and visibility
- Ensure that the implementation methods are as per the guidelines developed and acknowledged with good practice and that they achieve sustainable results
- Ensure that the ground-level issues are reported accordingly to the responsible line to resolve any issues affecting the program
- Monitor the project activities in the field regularly to ensure maximum results of the implemented activities, and follow up the identified issues for correction
- Support initiatives to enhance beneficiaries' and communities' accessibility to and utilization of high-quality healthcare services, adhering to OHS and public health guidelines validated by the MdM Nepal Mission.
Professional Competencies
- Develop, implement, and evaluate health advocacy and communication strategies
- Familiar with healthy city approach, urban health components, and environmental health intervention
- Plan and execute health advocacy campaigns
- Write, edit, and produce content (letter, press releases, social media posts, reports, speeches).
- Experience with multimedia production and digital storytelling
- Establish networks with diverse stakeholders, media, and handle media inquiries
- Knowledge of website management and online content strategies
- Familiarity with graphic design software
- Commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in all communication and advocacy efforts
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Qualifications and Experiences
- Academic requirement
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health or Nursing
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in public health-related projects, especially in urban health, occupational health, and/or environmental health including monitoring, evaluation, communication, advocacy and research.
- Experience in developing and implementing successful health advocacy and communication strategies would be an asset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and results-oriented approach
- Strong willingness to work with diverse communities, farmers' groups, and less advantaged /marginalized communities
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work outside regular office hours as needed.
- Fluency in Nepali and English
