Role purpose

The purpose of this role is to lead on the implementation of the Commercial and Business Development strategy, in line with the Exams department’s three-year plan and the wider Nepal country plan.  The post holder will coordinate activity to work towards a range of commercial and business development objectives, thereby sustaining existing accounts and creating new business by diversifying the current portfolio. The position will be a core part of the in-country Exams management team.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

Account and stakeholder management

  • Proactively develops strong relationships with key clients across the Nepal Exams portfolio.
  • Establishes and oversees the account relationship management process to support the achievement of agreed commercial targets.
  • Contributes to account relationship management objectives and coordinates a range of activities to cultivate, manage and leverage accounts to achieve commercial targets. 
  • Commercial planning
  • Contributes to forecasting of country Sales, Marketing and Operational Planning 
  • (SM&OP) targets relative to Market need, alongside Marketing and Operational colleagues.
  • Undertakes monitoring of partner sales performance across the portfolio, reporting to the Country Exams Director and contributing to the re-forecasting of sales targets. 
  • Manages Account Relationship team activities to meet (daily/weekly/monthly) agreed targets, schedules and deadlines. 
  • Delivers income targets, ensuring new and existing business is operationally feasible and commercially sound working with Finance input/support.
  • Market and customer intelligence 
  • Monitors and evaluates partner feedback to identify areas where business can be developed and proposes plans that respond to opportunities or threats appropriately, profitably and in accordance with business policies/priorities.
  • Participates actively in internal networks and knowledge management systems to ensure market and customer intelligence is shared in a timely and high-quality fashion to maximise the effectiveness of the British Council’s offer to key accounts and commercial planning.
  • Winning business
  • Identifies opportunities within key accounts to grow market split.
  • Organises, produces, and submits high-quality, market responsive initiatives, ensuring timely and appropriate input from internal stakeholders, experts and/or functional advisors.
  • Ensures compliance with agreed internal governance, review and sign-off arrangements.
  • Plays a leading role in presentations and negotiations with key accounts, ensuring the commercial/strategic interests and professional reputation of the organisation are protected and promoted.
  • Product knowledge and promotion
  • Proactively participates in internal working groups to maintain a detailed understanding of current and prospective products and services, using these insights to inform effective delivery of business development activities.
  • Identifies opportunities where new promotional and outreach initiatives could improve the effectiveness of business development activity.  Makes evidence-based recommendations to senior management to secure commitment and resources necessary to respond to such opportunities, including analysis of potential return on investment.
  • Leadership and management
  • Sets and oversees delivery of the workplan for key account management initiatives, coordinating with a range of exams staff to ensure effective delivery.
  • Provide formal line management to a small team. Identifies requirements and recommends training and development provision to build improved key account management capability within the team.

Requirements:

Language requirements

  • The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required
  • Nepali written and verbal proficiency is also required.

Education

  • Undergraduate or relevant professional qualification
  • Post graduate qualification is desirable

Role specific knowledge and experience:

Essential

  • Significant experience in a key account management role.
  • Significant experience of sustaining and/or growing a product/service in line with strategic priorities for income and impact.
  • Demonstratable experience collecting & analysing client/stakeholder feedback and using the data to identify business needs and obstacles; works to resolve them.
  • Experience in managing and leading medium-sized teams.

Desirable

  • Business development experience in the English and Exams sector

Pay Band – 7

Contract Type – fixed-term, 2 years

Location – Kathmandu, Nepal

Additional requirements

  • As we cannot sponsor work passes, applicants must already have the right to live and work in Nepal.
  • The post holder will be required to travel in country frequently and some international travel as needed.
