An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Finance Manager in the Nepal Office of Adara Development (Nepal).

Adara Development (Nepal) specialises in remote health, education, child protection, community resilience, youth development and maternal and newborn health programmes. In Nepal, we have worked in Humla since 2001 (implementing our Remote Community Development Programme); in Kathmandu we have worked since 2005 (in child protection and youth development); and in Ghyangfedi, Nuwakot we have worked since 2015 in response to the earthquakes and now in quality education, child protection and youth development. 

We are looking for a person to work as the Finance Manager (FM) within our Nepal Team, based in Kathmandu office. The Finance Manager (FM) will look after overall financial areas of the organisation, with support from one Finance Manager based in Kathmandu, Accounts and Administration Coordinator based in Humla and other relevant staff 

OVERALL GOAL OF THE JOB 

The overall goal of this job is to ensure that Adara Development (Nepal) is fully compliant with Nepal’s accounting standards and government regulations. The Finance Manager will ensure effective financial management for Adara Development Nepal by overseeing its accounting department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce accurate end-of-quarter, end-of-year accounts and other financial reports on time for approval by the head or relevant managers of the organisation (profit and loss account, balance sheet / receipt & payment A/C & other relevant reports that form part of financial statements).
  • Provide training to the programme staff on finance skills they need. 
  • Closely monitor expenditure of approved budget and update the head of the organisation on any over-spends and under-spends on a regular basis.
  • Develop, maintain and monitor all financial systems for overall operation of Adara Development in Nepal. (i.e. receiving and paying of monies including payroll and ensuring adequate authorisation and ensuring that all payments are made in good time and are signed off to the correct budget code).
  • Ensure Adara assets and financial information are adequately safeguarded, and confidentiality is maintained.
  • Direct involvement in annual budget planning for Nepal section of the international budget for Adara Development. Work with all parties to ensure that the budget is planned accurately and timely and feeds into the worldwide budgetary process.
  • Work closely with the Finance Department of Adara Development (Australia) in all finance related matters.
  • Work closely with Adara Development (Nepal) staff and partners in preparing monthly funds received vs actual report and monthly fund request for Sydney office.
  • Manage and supervise Adara’s overall financial operation system (budget planning, procurement, payments, payroll, account keeping, financial reports, banking system, accounting software, audit)
  • Responsible for monthly payroll processing for 24 employees. This will include ensuring all payroll information is captured, including leave and contracted work hours and ensuring wage payments are processed in time and with accuracy.
  • Review Adara Nepal staff leave record detail every month and send the periodic leave balance liability reports to Sydney finance team.
  • Ensure that all the liabilities of Adara Development (Nepal) towards taxes & duties are paid on time.
  • Keep up to date with relevant accounting standards and tax regulations in Nepal.
  • Oversee and ensure all relevant government reporting requirements are adhered to and filed by deadline dates.
  • Ensure Adara’s annual audit is performed on time and oversee the audit process of overall Adara projects and partner organisations.
  • Obtain Adara Development tax clearance and tax exemption renewal from Inland Revenue Office, KTM annually.
  • Prepare the required financial reports and budgets for Adara project agreement and SWC evaluation and ensure all the compliances are fully met.
  • Any other financial task delegated by the Manager.

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum Chartered Accountant degree or master’s degree in accounting, finance or a relevant subject. 
  • A minimum of 5 years working experience of working in the finance role with international or national development organisations. 
  • Experience in managing the financial software. (Business Central preferred)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and reporting skills with a learning attitude. Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate at all levels within internal and external groups. Should be fluent in speaking and writing Nepali and English. 
  • Understanding of financial principles.
  • Ability to undertake comprehensive research, analyse results and make recommendations from the findings.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to implement modifications wherever necessary.
  • Must be able to analyse project related financial scenarios and make quick intelligent decisions.
  • Excellent managerial skills.
  • Willingness and readiness to be engaged in work related, ongoing personal development and learning.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in Adara Development Nepal’s long-term vision and work with the rest of the team to realise this vision.
  • Have good computer skills. 
  • Understanding of development principles and how to apply them through excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and prioritise to meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel to remote places - like Humla
