About the Organization
Care and Development Organization (CDO) is a non-government, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of marginalized communities in Nepal. CDO focuses on supporting underprivileged individuals, children working in brick and carpet factories, internally displaced people, and women in need through medical care, health awareness, education, and skill development programs.
Job Summary:
Field Technical Assistant will support local community farmers by promoting sustainable agricultural practices, indigenous seed preservation, and improved storage mechanisms. The role includes training farmers, distributing agricultural inputs, and providing technical assistance to enhance productivity and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in promoting and preserving indigenous seeds and establishing community seed banks.
- Train and support farmers in sustainable agricultural techniques, including vegetable farming.
- Provide technical support for greenhouse (tunnel) farming and irrigation techniques (drip irrigation).
- Facilitate the distribution of agricultural inputs such as vegetable seeds, organic pesticide containers, water pipes, and plastic tunnels.
- Conduct field visits to monitor the implementation of farming practices and provide necessary guidance.
- Support farmers in utilizing organic fertilizers and pesticides to enhance soil health and productivity.
- Organize and facilitate exposure learning visits to enhance farmer-to-farmer learning and entrepreneurship development.
- Assist in data collection, documentation, and reporting of agricultural activities within the POWER project.
- Conduction of other income generation activities like traditional incense making training, knitting and sewing
- Capacity building of beneficiaries through education and practical skills on economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, and rotation of crops, organic manure and pesticide making etc
- Collaborate with the project team and stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of agricultural interventions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma in Agriculture (Plant Science) or related field.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in community-based agricultural projects or working with farmers.
- Knowledge of organic farming, seed preservation, irrigation techniques, and sustainable agriculture.
- Experience in training and capacity building of farmers.
- Knowledge and skill in community-based survey and report writing
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good communication skills both in Nepali and English
- Two-wheeler driving license will be an added advantage.
- Ability and willingness to frequent field visit in the project area.
Job Description:
- Facilitate to formulate agriculture group ensuring GESI perspectives
- Provide technical support for identifying appropriate varieties of agriculture seeds, livestock and other agricultural inputs
- Conduct need based agriculture and livestock management training both theory and field based
- Facilitate to conduct regular meeting of agriculture group and help them to plan appropriately for enhancement of their livelihood
- Coordinate with the municipality and ward level stakeholders for the quality implementation of the project activities and building synergy at local level
- Coordinate and work closely with ward and municipal agriculture unit and as well as CBOs such as micro credit/cooperative for building synergy
- Disseminate the project objective and intervention to wider beneficiaries’ and stakeholders
- Ensure effective and transparent use of office and financial resources.
- FTA (Agriculture) are not supposed to charge any consultancy fee to Beneficiaries.
- FTA (Agriculture) cannot operate any kind of business (agro/vet related) in the working municipality and wards
- Prepare event, monitoring, monthly and bi/annual report and submit to Program Manager.
