The Social Development and Research Center (SDRC), Janakpurdham, is seeking applications from experienced and qualified Nepali citizens for the following positions for the upcoming "Transforming Social Norms and Advancing Gender Equality in Madhesh Province" project, which will soon be implemented in various municipalities of Dhanusha district. This project is being implemented in collaboration with MAITI Nepal / UN Women.

Job Description:

Position Title: Field Coordinator

Project Title: Transforming Social Norms and Advancing Gender Equality in Madhesh Province

Location: Dhanusha Districts, Madhesh Province, Nepal

Reporting To: Province Coordinator

Duration: March 2025 - December 2027

Organization: Social Development and Research Center(SDRC)

Job Summary:

The Field Coordinator will play a key role in the implementation of the "Transforming Social Norms and Advancing Gender Equality in Madhesh Province" project. The primary responsibility of the Field Coordinator will be to oversee and coordinate community mobilization activities, awareness campaigns, and workshops aimed at preventing gender-based violence (GBV), promoting gender equality, and challenging harmful social norms such as dowry and child marriage. The Field Coordinator will work closely with local communities, youth groups, faith-based leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of project activities in the target districts of Dhanusha.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Community Mobilization and Awareness Campaigns:

  • Plan, organize, and conduct community awareness campaigns on gender-based violence (GBV), dowry, child marriage, and gender equality.
  • Engage with local communities, schools, religious centers, and community halls to disseminate information and promote behavioral change.
  • Facilitate the formation and training of youth-led community groups to act as change agents in their communities.
  • Coordinate with FM radio stations to run advocacy and awareness programs in local languages.

2. Workshops and Training:

  • Organize and facilitate workshops for men and boys to promote positive masculinity and challenge toxic gender norms.
  • Conduct sensitization workshops with faith-based leaders to promote gender-equitable messages within their communities.
  • Support the implementation of participatory theater, street plays, and art programs to address harmful cultural practices.

3. Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local government authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure their active participation in project activities.
  • Collaborate with consortium partners (WDSC and SDRC) to ensure smooth implementation of project activities in the target districts.
  • Engage male community leaders and influencers in social media campaigns to promote gender equality.

4. Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monitor the progress of field activities and ensure that they are aligned with the project’s objectives and timelines.
  • Collect and document data on the impact of community mobilization efforts, including the number of participants, feedback from the community, and any challenges faced.
  • Prepare regular reports on field activities, including progress updates, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.

5. Capacity Building:

  • Support the capacity-building initiatives for local community groups, youth leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of project outcomes.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to community groups and local partners in implementing project activities.

6. Coordination and Communication:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for field-level activities and ensure effective communication between the project team, consortium partners, and local stakeholders.
  • Participate in regular project meetings and provide updates on field activities, challenges, and successes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in community mobilization, gender equality programs, or social development projects, preferably in the context of GBV prevention and women’s empowerment.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of gender issues, social norms, and harmful practices such as dowry and child marriage.
    • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, including men, women, youth, and community leaders.
    • Experience in organizing and conducting workshops, training sessions, and awareness campaigns.
    • Proficiency in data collection, monitoring, and reporting.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a challenging and dynamic environment.
  • Languages: Fluency in Nepali and local languages spoken in Madhesh Province. Proficiency in English is an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • The Field Coordinator will be based in the target districts of Dhanusha , with frequent travel to rural areas.
  • The position may require working outside regular office hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate community activities and events.
