Expression of Interest for Experts

1) About dZi

dZi Foundation is a US-based non-profit organization working with rural communities in Nepal to achieve prosperity by eliminating barriers to basic needs, fostering opportunities for sustainable livelihoods, and building their capacity to catalyze transformational change. dZi adopts a new five-year strategic objective (2024- 2029) guided by past learning, adaptation to the emerging policy and development contexts, and an improved focus on partnership, local ownership, and sustainability beyond external investment to realize the journey to shared prosperity. Our work now focuses on Koshi Province but is not limited to.

2) About the calls for experts

dZi Foundation/ Nepal is seeking an expression of interest to maintain and update the roster of potential thematic and consultants with expertise in areas aligned with the organizational vision of shared prosperity as well as its professional services.

3) Required area of expertise

Consultants should have expertise in at least one of the following areas:

  • Adaptive management
  • Anti-money laundering, financial and regulatory compliance
  • Business development including concept and proposal development 
  • Capacity building of public sector and CSOs
  • Climate change: adaptation and mitigation and climate finance 
  • Communications: audio/visual production, and media advocacy
  • Disaster risk reduction and resilience
  • Engineering design, survey, estimation, and project management with a focus on drinking water, rural roads, small irrigation, and schools.
  • Education sector development including equity in education
  • Gender equality and social inclusion
  • Green economy and growth
  • Human resource management and services 
  • Inclusive governance and public sector management
  • Integrated community development
  • Local economic development 
  • Mobile/web application development, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Monitoring, evaluation, research and learning
  • Natural resource management 
  • Organizational development, change, and performance measurement 
  • Performance and financial audits
  • Policy advocacy and multistakeholder cooperation
  • Political economy analysis
  • Poverty reduction: standard, assessment, intervention design, and backstopping. 
  • Private sector engagement
  • Procurement management
  • Project design, monitoring, and evaluation
  • Remote sensing and geographic information system
  • Report writing, including copy editing, and language interpretation (English, Nepali)
  • Sustainable development
  • Sustainable livelihoods development
  • Vulnerability and risk assessment and management

4) Minimum requirements and qualifications

  • Educational qualifications: at least a Master’s degree in a related subject, or PhD is highly preferred. Additional professional qualifications/ certification in the given area will be an added advantage.
  • Work experience: at least 5 years of professional work experience in related areas is required in addition to at least 3 work assignments with international organizations. 
  • Other skillsets: proficiency in the English language, interpersonal and intercultural skills, research and capacity building, and the political economy of development sectors at national and subnational levels are essential, though not exhaustive. Seasoned work experience with government agencies, private sectors, and CSOs will be an integrated part of the expertise.  
  • Travel requirements: the expert will be required to travel to the field and should be able to adapt to field realities while conducting the field visits. Respect for the local socio-cultural dynamics as well as political impartiality while performing the task will be a non-negotiation requirement.

5) Duration of the assignment

The scope of the assignment will vary depending on the needs but ideally should be between a week to a maximum of three months in one fiscal year (FY 2024/25).

6) Application process

Interested professionals meeting the minimum requirements and qualifications can submit the EOI with (1) a cover page, (2) an updated CV with the expected daily rate, (3) a copy of PAN/VAT certificate with the latest TAX clearance certificate, and (4) evidence of a similar assignment, at least three.

Please submit your EOI and required documents electronically to procurement.np@dzi.org by/before July 1, 2024, with EOI for Call for Roster (expertise area) in the subject line. More than one expertise area can be included in the application if the consultant possesses the relevant qualifications. Please ensure that the attachment should not be larger than 10 MB.

Please note that this is an exhaustive list of expertise dZi may need to carry out its operations, and so the enlistment in the roster does not necessarily guarantee the award of an assignment. dZi will invite an expert when required. Telephone inquiries shall not be entertained. Canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification.

dZi reserves the right to accept or reject any or all proposals without assigning any reason whatsoever.
