Background
Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) Nepal was founded in 2003 and has since established a reputation as one of the leading clinical research groups in Nepal. There has been considerable investment in upgrading the laboratories and in training young Nepalese clinicians and scientists. The main research focus is on the most common infectious diseases affecting the Nepalese population with a major focus on undifferentiated febrile illnesses and antimicrobial resistance.
Job summary
The Data Management Officer will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of data collection and storage systems to ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility throughout the research study. This role is crucial in supporting the research team to achieve accurate and reliable results.
Key responsibilities and tasks

Data Collection and Management:

  • Develop and maintain data collection systems and procedures.
  • Oversee the collection, entry, and verification of research data.
  • Ensure data is collected in compliance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements.

Database Management:

  • Design, implement, and manage databases for storing research data.
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of data entries.
  • Regularly update databases and maintain backups.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Prepare data for analysis by cleaning and transforming datasets.
  • Collaborate with research team to perform statistical analysis.
  • Generate regular and ad-hoc reports for the study team 

Quality Control:

  • Generate/update tables and charts of the indicators of interest for routine monitoring purposes
  • Conduct routine audits to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Train research staff on data management protocols and best practices.
  • Raise data queries in the database for discrepancies, missing information, or inconsistencies in the collected data

Data Security and Confidentiality:

  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and guidelines.
  • Manage access control to ensure only authorized personnel can access data.

Documentation and Record Keeping:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data management processes.
  • Ensure proper archiving of data and associated documentation.
  • Prepare data management plans, standard operating procedures and reports as required.
Selection criteria

Essential criteria:

  • Bachelors in Health Informatics, Public Health or any other related fields
  • Experience in creating and/or managing database such as ODK or REDCap is required 
  • At least 1-year experience in data management or monitoring and evaluation
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Preferred criteria:

  • Experience in working with large, health-related datasets
  • Experience in working in statistical analytical tools such as SPSS, R 
  • Experience in working in health research projects
