POSITION DESCRIPTION

Project Description

Deloitte Consulting is the implementing partner for the USAID-funded Urja Nepal Project based in Kathmandu. This position is under Deloitte Consulting Overseas Projects LLC. The purpose of Urja Nepal is to create a financially viable electricity sector that provides affordable, reliable and secure power and enables the entry of private investment into the Nepali market.

The Communications and Creative Design Specialist will be responsible for creating a number of externally facing marketing materials including infographics, two-page reports, social media posts, and general public relations support. Experience in, a strong interest, and/or familiarity with the energy and climate sector is a requirement. This position will require candidates to demonstrate a background with strong writing, creative design, and public relations skills.

The position is part-time at 20 hours per week, with the possibility to increase up to full time at 40 hours a week depending on finalization of responsibilities. The position reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP). Urja Nepal is accepting offers from qualified firms as well as exceptional individuals with the full suite of required skills.

Responsibilities:

Develop and Execute Communications Strategy:

  • Create an integrated communications framework, coordinating media content across various channels including LinkedIn, news outlets, USAID platforms, international publications, and other relevant mediums.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to develop knowledge-sharing materials (infographics, one-pagers, two-pagers, mini reports) in response to major international and national events in the energy and/or climate sector.

Creative Design and Content Development:

  • Utilize Adobe InDesign, PowerPoint, or other creative software suites to design and refine presentations, graphics, and other materials that promote USAID’s energy sector work.
  • Craft high-quality public events such as openings, workshops, forums, seminar and conference speaking engagements, news releases, and online media outlets.
  • Be proactive in identifying, producing, and promoting content with minimal supervision.

Editing and Quality Assurance:

  • Review and edit major deliverables, including reports and studies, for readability, spelling, grammar, accuracy, punctuation, consistency, and logic.
  • Develop the project’s Branding Implementation Plan and Marking Plan, ensuring compliance with USAID and contract requirements.

Event Management and Public Relations:

  • Maintain an event calendar and support the execution of program events, ensuring they are properly publicized, well-attended, and exhibit appropriate and USAID-compliant marketing materials.
  • Lead the development of Success Stories, including identifying successful program activities to feature, conducting research and interviews, drafting content, sourcing images, formatting/design, managing the internal approval/review process, and coordinating distribution.

Compliance and Coordination:

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of USAID communications and branding regulations, as well as contract limitations, and inform/educate others on these requirements as necessary.
  • Interface with USAID/Nepal communications staff to ensure all communications and published materials meet USAID and USG standards.
  • Manage the project’s social media content and accounts (as permitted by the client and contract, and according to regulations).

Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Creative Design, Digital Marketing, Media Studies, Advertising, or similar is required. A Master’s degree is strongly preferred.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in creative design and communications, including 5 years in similar roles supporting communications and/or public relations activities for public or private sector organizations, or donor projects in development work (USAID experience is preferred).

Skills and Competencies:

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to quickly identify and craft compelling Success Stories.
  • Strong creative design skills with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or similar graphic design software.
  • Sound computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office® applications, particularly Word and PowerPoint.
  • Exposure to and understanding of energy-related technical terminology is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Flexible and adaptive personality, with a self-starter attitude willing to take initiative, remain accountable, and take ownership of work products.
  • Dedicated to professional development, improvement, and open to receiving constructive feedback.
