Handicap International Federation (HI) is an independent and impartial aid organization, created in 1982, working across 63 countries. HI works alongside the vulnerable populations, whatever the context, taking action to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. Present in Nepal since 2000, HI works through a network of local partner organizations in the area of health and physical rehabilitation, inclusive education and resilience including emergency response to improve the living conditions and involvement of the most vulnerable populations in Nepal.
HI Nepal invites application from qualified candidates for the following position:
Communication Specialist – 1 Position
Terms & Conditions: Fixed Term Contract
Location: Country Office Kathmandu, Nepal
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development and monitoring of the Organization’s communications strategy (audience strategy, message strategy, means strategy), with a particular focus on the development, implementation and monitoring of the organization’s communication action plan (for both external and internal purpose).
- Develop active and quality working relationships with HI partner/consortium organizations, journalists of the local and international media, as well as communication related vendors/consultants.
- Develop guidelines, content and communication tools to meet organization and donor marking and branding (visibility) requirements.
- Contribute to the Organization's emergency preparedness plan and, during an emergency, be reactive in providing content on HI’s response and manage media requests.
- Manage/supervise the Organization’s social media accounts in accordance with the Organization’s audience and message strategies, as well as HI’s social media policy and ethical guidelines.
- Coordinate with other countries and communication colleagues at the federal HQ and in National Associations to gather and promote HI’s works and best practices.
- Develop guidelines, training modules on Organization Communications for all organization’s staff and local partners when relevant, with a specific focus on staff involved in communication activities.
- Provide training on HI’s social media policy guidance on social media management for the staff, with a specific focus on staff involved in communication activities.
- Provide training to project staff and partners staff on donor visibility requirements and rules
- Extend support to other countries in the region as per requirement of the organization.
Qualification and Skills Required:
- A Master’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or any other related field
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in communications, journalism, print media, research documentation in I/NGOs
- A solid understanding of communications strategies and materials and the program context
- Proficient in communication material design and content production
- Proficiency in digital communication; knowledge of graphic design and video production
- Demonstrated experience of working with various donors
- Ability to express clearly and concisely opinions and present information confidently to internal and external audiences.
- Good understanding of disability context / concerns and rights
- Excellent written and verbal communication in Nepali and English
