About YUWA
Established in 2009, YUWA is a registered not-for-profit, purely youth-run and led organization that promotes youth participation through empowerment and advocacy. YUWA was born out of a group of committed youths, unofficially working in this sector since 2005. The initial focus was to develop the leadership skills of the youths involved, to train as youth activists, and to advocate for change, thus resulting in a wide and diverse array of knowledge, skills, and experience in this sector. It led to the realization of the seriousness of youth issues and the need to act, which finally took the shape of YUWA.
YUWA currently works in three thematic areas: Active Citizenship, Sexual and Reproductive Rights and Research Unit
Department: Communication, Documentation, and Learning Department
The Communication, Documentation, and Learning Department at YUWA is a cornerstone of the organization's mission to enhance communication, document project activities, and foster a culture of continuous learning. This department plays a crucial role in shaping the narrative of YUWA's impactful work, ensuring effective documentation of projects, and facilitating knowledge sharing within the organization.
The Communication, Documentation, and Learning Department is dedicated to facilitating transparent and impactful communication both internally and externally. It oversees the development and implementation of communication strategies, the meticulous documentation of project activities, and the promotion of a learning culture across YUWA. It collaborates closely with internal stakeholders, including program officers, the creative department, and other relevant teams within the organization. Additionally, the department engages with external stakeholders such as donors, partners, and policymakers to enhance YUWA's visibility and reputation.
Position Title: Communication, Documentation, and Learning Officer
Job Responsibilities:
Project Communication
- Develop and implement internal and external strategies for communication and outreach.
- Evolve successful goal-oriented communication plans with all program departments.
- Maintain a calendar of assigned project communication needs.
- Develop a social media engagement tracker for YUWA in collaboration with program departments.
- Lead and support learning events, conduct/facilitate research, produce resources and guidance, and facilitate ongoing content development and engagement in every project.
- Help YUWA in integrating knowledge, learning management, and preserving institutional memory into their every project, activity, report and strategy.
- Ensure every new program includes learning outcomes and strategically disseminate the learning through various avenues and ensure tangible results are included in the reports.
- Prepare and monitor web analytics of online tools.
- Think outside the box- creative ways to engage and attract YUWA’s target beneficiaries.
- Develop and disseminate YUWA’s reports, publications and public relation materials among beneficiaries’ stakeholders and relevant policymakers.
- Update YUWA’s website and communication folder with documentation of new learnings.
- Work in close collaboration with Program Coordinator to plan and implement programs and workshops, and perform duties assigned by Executive Board.
Partner Management
- Build and sustain relationships with donors in accordance with YUWA’s partnership values.
- Conduct frequent meetings with the team members as specified in the project details, document and disseminate the meeting learnings.
- Conduct frequent meetings within the team members at YUWA as specified in the project details.
- Attend meetings and be engaged in content which will increase positive PR of YUWA in accordance with YUWA values, mission and vision.
- Ensure ethical content and document creation using inclusive, respectful, and context-appropriate language.
- Handle all social media and all digital outreach that YUWA operates.
Organizational Development and Team Tasks
- Support the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of YUWA’s strategic plan.
- Initiating different in-house programs and other management interventions wherever gaps in the programs are identified, or issues arise.
- Contribute to other program tasks of YUWA and RHRN-2, such as joint advocacy planning and development, information scanning, visitor orientation, publication outputs, promotion of YUWA, and others.
- Contribute to mid-year, annual and long-term review of strategic planning.
- Contribute to and participate in organization-wide tasks, such as staff meetings, staff capacity development activities, annual retreat, evaluation and planning meetings, staff representation at Annual General Meetings, intern/volunteer/visitor orientation, and others.
- In collaboration with the YUWA’s Executive Board, provide substantive contributions to the development of funding proposals when required.
- Perform any other duties as assigned relevant to the scope of the role.
Minimum Qualifications and Transferable Skills
- Bachelor’s degree (completed) from a reputed university in media studies, mass communication, journalism, gender studies, social work, and other relevant subjects with excellent command of Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, and video editing tools.
- Ability to lead the communications department in coordination with the Communication, Documentation and Learning Assistant Proven skills in photography and videography and technical operations related to communications.
- Proficiency in multimedia format and ability to align with overall branding guidelines.
- At least two years of working experience in a similar position in graphic design, content creation, and creative field is preferred although freshers are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in designing software tools, including graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign) and video editing software, is expected.
Reporting Lines
The Communication, Documentation and Learning Officer will report to the Executive Board, who will be nominally supervising the communications department.
Working Relationships
The Communication, Documentation and Learning Officer will establish and maintain effective working relationships with the program department and work in coordination with program coordinators and other team members.
Duration and Contract
Contract: The contract will be a fixed-term contract for 6 months, with a three-month probation period. This can be a full-time position.
The contract will include details of compensation, benefits, and other relevant terms and conditions discussed during the negotiation process.
