DCA is implementing its five-year strategy (2022 to 2026), during which it expects to implement initiatives focusing on three thematic areas: (1) Fight Extreme Inequality; (2) Build Resilient Communities; and (3) Save Lives (Humanitarian Response and DRR). All our interventions in Nepal will be implemented under the umbrella of Climate Action, and Gender Equality will remain to be our cross-cutting commitments.
Details / requirements:
DCA Nepal is looking for competent, experienced and motivated candidate for the position of Climate Action Advisor who can play both a technical and an advisory role in moving forward DCA’s commitment towards contributing to a greener and cleaner environment through contribution to sustainable production and consumptions, climate-friendly policies, and economic interventions that has grown much stronger and will be reflected in the five-year country strategy (2022-2026). This position will also support to effectively implement the global strategy (2023-2026) with a special focus on climate action in Nepal Country Office.
As the Climate Action Advisor, you will be on fundraising for the projects on climate change, leading the strategic and technical mainstreaming of climate action interventions (adaptation, mitigation, and loss and damage) across all the three thematic pillars of DCA: Save Lives, Build Resilient Communities and Fight Extreme Inequality. You will engage in national and regional level dialogues on climate action, undertakes national and regional level research activities and design regional projects, thereby enhancing the portfolio of DCA on climate change. You will work closely with Program Managers and reports to Head of Programme. You will be based at Nepal Country Office, Kathmandu with field travel.
Key responsibility includes:
- Lead the climate component of DCA and contribute for the meaningful mainstreaming into all the thematic pillars of DCA: Save Lives, Build Resilient Communities and Fight Extreme Inequality;
- Provide technical leadership and organisation support in the management of projects with climate focus;
- Play lead role in implementing DCA’s international climate policy, and developing country specific climate strategies;
- Represent DCA in national and regional climate change dialogues and forums;
- Strengthen partnerships with key climate actors in Nepal particularly government, donors, private sector for resource generation, leveraging and management;
- Support the implementing partners of DCA to strengthen their own climate agenda;
- Explore opportunities and develop proposals with strong climate actions at community, local and national level;
- Innovate ideas to research, disseminate findings and conduct evidence-based advocacy at the Country Office;
- Provide relevant documents, content to Communication team and work closely to produce communications materials/ testimonies, case studies that are particularly focusing on Climate Action impacts and learning; suitable for fundraisings and for use on our websites and social media.
What you bring:
- Master’s degree in Climate Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Forestry, Agriculture or any other relevant field
- A minimum of seven years of experience focusing on climate actions (research, mitigation, adaptation, policy advocacy, among others) of which five years in an international organisation with similar responsibilities
- Experience in working with government, donors, private sectors in Nepal and other countries in Asia region is an asset
- Good understanding and demonstrated knowledge of the national level policies, frameworks, and national level legislations on climate change
- Well versed in national and international climate discourse and dialogues
- Demonstrated excellent written and spoken English and good command over report writing in English
- Excellent interpersonal skills having strong networking
- Good analytical and research skills
- Demonstrated skill on writing proposals focused on climate change; Scientific publications as an author/co-author will be an added advantage
- Critical thinker and ability to engage in and contribute to higher-level policy discussions on climate actions with multiple stakeholders
