Human Rights and Environment Development Centre (HuRENDEC) is a leading non-profit making Non-Government Organization (NGO) registered in Kalikot district, Nepal. Since its’ official establishment in 1997 (2053), it has been working on need-based action oriented multi-disciplinary areas through social mobilization especially focusing on research, Human Rights, Lobby and Advocacy for the rights of women, children and socially disadvantaged groups. Its major areas for working are Livelihood support, Micro Enterprise Development, Good-governance, Disaster Risk Reduction, Rehabilitation/Recovery Response, Natural Resource Management and Environment friendly rural infrastructure, Sustainable Utilization of (natural) Resources and Promotion of Renewable Energy Technologies for addressing adverse effects of the Climate Change. HuRENDEC Kalikot has been working in all 10 districts of Karnali province.

At present, we are seeking deserving candidates for following positions in “Adapting to Climate Induced Threats to Food Production and Food Security in the Karnali region of Nepal” program. The program has been implemented in 2 municipalities of Kalikot district of Nepal.  This project has focused to minimize climate change effect, livelihood support, Nutrition support and enhance capacity building of local people and support for proper policies to the local government.  

1.  Civil sub Engineer/ Site Supervisor (H-SC 5)- 1 position

Job Location: Project sites (Palata and Pachalajharana Rural municipalities), Kalikot  

Report to: Civil Engineer /Project Coordinator

Contract Period: Up to 31 December 2020, possibility of extension

Purpose of Position:

The position is tasked to take a lead in project site in the target areas, applying established tools on community organizing, rapport-building and social mobilization of HuRENDEC. The main function of the position holders, not limited though, to assess the needs for the project site, designing and estimating construction plan text and social mobilization plan for implementation and monitoring the effectiveness of the plan and establish effective communication and feedback system to evaluate the performance of the activities. S/he will also ensure that activities have been implemented according to the standards and within the framework of the HuRENDEC and WFP.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Design the construction works, prepare specifications/standards for quality assurance of construction works with reference to the construction site.
  • Develop the visibility, monthly progress report format, working schedule for reporting, implementation and work completion in time.
  • Breakdown and segregate of the materials and skilled/unskilled labor required for each scheme and each item of work to manage the construction site and for mobilization vulnerable community for construction for food and cash assistance to address food security.
  • Schedule the project in logical steps, budget and time required to meet deadline. Mobilize social mobilizer. 
  • Develop and implement quality control with support from program monitoring and quality assurance committee. 
  • Visits the construction site to ensure the construction activities are going as per design and estimation.
  • Attends different trainings and workshops as well as capacitate the community who help in implementation of construction.
  • Ensure the safety measure of the persons who will work during construction. 

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Diploma Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, Planning or Design or another related field.
  • 3 years of relevant experience in construction in rural areas 
  • Fluent oral and written and communication skills in English, Nepali and local language 
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Advance use of excel, word and excellent knowledge of Auto CAD. 

2.  Ranger (Forest/ natural resource management assistant) -H-SC 5- 1 position

Job Location: Project sites (Palata and Pachalajharana Rural municipalities), Kalikot  

Report to: Forest officer and Project Coordinator

Contract Period: Up to 31 December 2020, possibility of extension

Purpose of the Position:

Under the overall supervision and guidance of the project coordinator and direct supervision of Forest officer, S/He will perform the duties of natural resource management, plantation, value chain for forest products and support to establish forest-based enterprises. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to implement the approved projects activities including preparation of implementation plans of forestry component.  
  • Facilitate to establish forest-based nursery, support for plantation.
  • Facilitate to promote forest based small enterprise for income diversification.
  • Support community forestry for capacity building of sustainable forest management.
  • Support forest officer to conduct the field level activities related to forestry and climate change
  • Provide support for database maintenance (Data entry, field report preparation) of the projects and donors
  • Work to enhance networking and communications with the local government and relevant stakeholders
  • Coordinate, network and liaise local partners, resource persons and beneficiaries. 
  • Assist in forest survey.
  • Assist in preparation and revision of Local Forestry Users Group formation, operational plan and microenterprises development.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Intermediate level in Forestry, NRM or relevant subject from recognized university.
  • More than 2 years of work experience in forestry and natural resource management 
  • Practical experience in CFUG work plan preparation, forestry inventory and conflict management. 
  • Proven skill in social mobilization; communication and computer skills.
  • Should demonstrate good knowledge of Nepali and local language, working English language will be preferred
  • Fluent networking and coordination skills
  • Good interpersonal skills

3.  Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning Associate (H-SC 5)- 1 position

Job Location: Project sites (Palata and Pachalajharana Rural municipalities), Kalikot  

Report to: Project Coordinator  

Contract Period: Up to 31 December 2020, possibility of extension

Purpose of the Position:

The main function of the position holder is to monitor, evaluate program activities and report regularly. S/he will also ensure GESI and integrate protection related components during program implementation.  

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Monitoring, evaluation and reporting of the program activities regularly
  • Produce case studies/ knowledge products
  • Support in ensuring the GESI
  • Integration of protection related components during the implementation of the program
  • Prepare, monitor and periodically update monthly work plan 
  • Supervise and support to field level staff, providing practical advice and guidance, 
  • Build networks, relationships and liaise with internal and external stakeholders in support of program  implementation and report to project coordinator 
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports of project activities and assist to PC, account officer and other staffs during report preparation

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years experience in related field   
  • Bachelor Degree in social science or relevant studies
  • Excellent personal organizational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure   
  • Willingness to travel to field offices and work in difficult environment according to travel requirements.
  • Proven skill in social mobilization; communication and computer skills.
  • Understanding on Local context and Local Language will be appreciated
