An International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) working in the education sector in Nepal since 2009, specializing in infrastructural development for remote schools and currently been implementing 2 years Project "Infrastructure Development for Quality Education and School Support Project in Nepal".

Position Overview

UHGHF is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Engineer to support and oversee the implementation of its projects, specifically in the construction and renovation of school infrastructure across Nepal. The Engineer will ensure adherence to the project's scope, quality, and compliance with the PPMO guidelines and UHGHF policies.

• Contract Type: Initial 1 year with 3 months of Probation Period (Renewal Possibility) 
• Location: Kathmandu (with frequent travel to project areas across Nepal)
• Application Deadline: 1 week from publication date

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Oversight: Manage Time, Cost, and Quality aspects of construction and renovation projects, ensuring alignment with national standards and UHGHF policies.
2. Technical Supervision: Provide technical oversight during the research, design, planning, and implementation of construction, including preparation of Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and budget management.
3. Collaboration: Work closely with the team to select schools, define project scopes, and manage procurement, transportation, and logistics. Maintain strong communication and supervision with consultants and contractors to ensure alignment with project requirements, and effectively manage quality, costs, and timelines.
4. Stakeholder Engagement: Lead meetings with local governments, school authorities, and other stakeholders including communities to confirm project requirements and ensure local support. 
5. Design & Estimation: Prepare accurate estimations, specifications, and schedules, and oversee the development of designs and engineering services as needed.
6. Quality Assurance: During construction, work with all the stakeholders including consultant, contractor, school construction committees and government bodies to ensure the quality of work and site safety throughout the phases of construction, reconstruction, and renovation.
7. Reporting & Documentation: Prepare regular project reports on progress, and provide updates to supervisors and Kathmandu office. Ensure smooth project handover with all necessary documentation and staff training for maintenance and operations.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in building construction and WASH-related activities (design, planning, implementation, budgeting, BOQs, technical site supervision and reporting), experience in the development sector is preferable.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Auto CAD. Knowledge of current government policies related to public school construction and WASH activities, PPMO and E-bid related knowledge is must.
• Licenses: A professional Engineering License with valid two-wheeler driving license.
• Language Skills: Good Command in English (both written and spoken).
• Personal Skills: Ability to work with team, under pressure and manage tight deadlines with limited resources.
• Remuneration & Allowances: Remuneration and benefits will be in accordance with UHGHF’s policy.
