Rural Education and Environment Development Center (REED Nepal) is a national non-governmental organization based in Kathmandu. Currently, it has been implementing various projects related to Teacher Training and Quality Inclusive Education in Solukhumbu and West Nepal: Samridhee Khaptadchhanna, Bajhang supported by Australian Himalayan Foundation. 1. Context and Background

Safeguarding involves implementing measures to protect all individuals' women, girls, children, vulnerable adults, men, and boys—from harm, abuse, harassment, or exploitation. REED Nepal, we are dedicated to fostering a secure and trustworthy environment that prioritizes the safety of our staff, children we work with/ for, the communities we serve, volunteers, Board Members, consultants. We are particularly focused on preventing harm, sexual exploitation, harassment, abuse and other issues related to child safeguarding.

REED Nepal provides comprehensive orientation on safeguarding practices, including our Child Protection Policy and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Harassment. We aim to raise awareness, advocate for these essential policies, and ensure that safeguarding responsibilities are diligently upheld by all staff, partners, community members and stakeholders we work with. In this regard, the major aim is to conduct capacity building of staff in child safeguarding/child protection and gender with a TOT training.

2. Objective:

  • To empower staff with comprehensive training on child safeguarding and gender sensitization skills.
  • To enable staff to effectively deliver child safeguarding, gender sensitization classes/ training to teachers working in the project area, children and other related stakeholders.
  • To skill up the trainees on school level policies/guidelines development support aligned to School Improvement Plan (SIP).
  • To promote an inclusive educational environment that supports gender equality.
  • To upgrade gender and child friendly working environment within the organization. 

3. Scope of Work:

  1. Training: Conduct training for the Safeguarding and Gender TOT for Employee
  2. Guidelines and Tools: Update safeguarding guidelines and tools to be used by the Safeguarding Working Group for training staff, partners, providers, and community beneficiaries. These should cover basic terms, reporting/feedback mechanisms, referral systems, case handling, investigations, and documentation.
  3. Creating a thorough curriculum for the ToT that incorporates instructional techniques, engaging exercises, and evaluation procedures.
  4. Conducting a training workshop for a selected group of REED Nepal staff.

Methodology

The consultant is expected to propose a comprehensive methodology for the workshops and training sessions. This should include a detailed description of the content, agenda, and tools that will be used.

Target Groups

The primary target group for this engagement is the REED Nepal Team members.

Key Deliverables

  1. Conduct face-to-face training/workshops.
  2. Develop a Training of Trainers (ToT) package for the staffs of REED Nepal. This package should include guidelines, tools, checklists, and minimum standards.
  3. Submit all deliverables in English, ensuring they are proofread, edited, and presented as a final, acceptable report. (Document training activities, attendance records, evaluation findings, and lessons learned throughout the training process. Prepare comprehensive reports to communicate outcomes, impacts, and recommendations to stakeholders.)

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

We are looking for a consultant with the following qualifications:

  • The Consultant or the training team member must be master's degree in social science/ education or law 
  • Experience conducting similar assignments in the development sector, particularly with I/NGOs in Nepal (Preference working in education sector).
  • Expertise in rights-based approaches, gender, social inclusion, child safeguard/child protection or related fields.
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills.

Adherence to the REED Nepal code of conduct and safeguarding policy is essential to ensure the protection of the rights, safety, and welfare of individuals and communities involved.
