The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We support peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide. Through our arts, education and English programmes, we give opportunities to millions of people worldwide each year. We are on the ground in six continents and over 100 countries. British Council is operating in Nepal since 1959.
British Council is working in the area of youth leadership development. Our Youth Connect Programme supports young leaders and influencers to contribute to trust-building, cohesion and stability in their societies and represent their communities on a local, regional and national stage. The programme will address change around four main thematic areas of concern to young people: (i) Climate Change, (ii) Conflict and stability, (iii) Employability and (iv) Disconnection and alienation.
Implementation Partner for Youth in Climate and Social Action (YCSA)
The ‘Youth for Climate and Social Action’ project aims to harness the potential of Nepalese youth by giving them opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and expand their networks. By engaging them in climate and social action with local communities and local authorities, the project will create more impactful and sustainable outcomes that address the multifaceted challenges the society faces. Furthermore, through engagement of youth in policy advocacy, the project will bridge the gap in representation of youth voice and involvement in local decision-making processes under those respective areas.
This project aims to build upon British Councils work on developing social leadership of young people by incorporating the learnings from its previous interventions, to create space for young people in Nepal to be positive agents of change to combat climate change and other social challenges.
The British Council is seeking applications from potential implementation partners to support the British Council to increase engagement, networking and influence of young women and men in planning, policymaking, and monitoring with regards to climate change and other pressing social issues by developing their capacity.
The selected implementation partner will have to select project beneficiaries, and guide and mentor them to carryout climate and social action in collaboration with communities and local authorities. This will include administering and monitoring climate/social action small grants scheme, disbursed to selected youth in group settings. The implementation partner will also implement youth policy engagement related activities.
This project in Nepal will be implemented until June 2025, with potential new extension phase post June 2025. For details about the projects scope and objectives, refer to the attached application guidelines.
