Welthungerhilfe applies a systematic approach to resilience building and aligns with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction for disaster risk-informed programming. Since 2012, WHH’s Nepal country office has supported 37 projects with local partners. Currently, WHH Nepal is managing 11 projects worth €13 million in 11 districts across four provinces: Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim. Our thematic focus encompasses food and nutrition security, right to food and empowerment, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), disaster risk reduction, early action and humanitarian response, early recovery. Through these interventions, WHH strives to enhance social inclusion by empowering marginalized and economically vulnerable groups to strengthen their resilience and realize their right to adequate food and nutrition.
About the Role: Welthungerhilfe (WHH) seeks a highly skilled and experienced Behavior Change Expert to lead the design and implementation of behavior change strategies under the USAID BHA Early Recovery, Risk Reduction, and Resilience (ER4) Project. The Behavior Change Expert will work closely with the Chief of Party (COP) to integrate evidence-based approaches that drive positive behavioral shifts across project interventions. This role will ensure alignment with WHH’s and USAID’s program objectives, foster collaboration with key stakeholders and partners, and contribute to achieving sustainable and inclusive project outcomes.
The Behavior Change Expert role is contingent upon USAID approval, as well as the project award and funding availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct behavioral assessments to identify key practices, barriers, and enablers for resilience and emergency preparedness.
- Design and implement evidence-based behavior change strategies, integrating Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) approaches tailored to local contexts.
- Engage communities and stakeholders to co-create culturally sensitive interventions, ensuring inclusivity and participation.
- Develop MEL indicators to monitor the impact of behavior change initiatives and document lessons learned.
- Document lessons learned and best practices to refine strategies and inform future programming.
- Collaborate with technical experts, partners, and government entities to integrate behavior change into sectoral programs.
- Promote sustainability by fostering community ownership and aligning interventions with local development plans.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
- Advanced degree in social sciences, psychology, public health, communication, or a related field with a focus on behavior change or social and SBCC.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in designing and implementing behavior change strategies, particularly in resilience, disaster preparedness, or food security and nutrition programs.
- Proven knowledge of behavior change frameworks such Behavior Centered Design, and their application in humanitarian contexts.
- Strong experience in working with diverse stakeholders, including marginalized groups, to co-design culturally appropriate behavior change interventions.
- Expertise in developing communication materials, campaigns, and using diverse channels (mass media, interpersonal, digital) to influence behaviors effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and measure behavior change indicators, conduct evaluations, and adapt interventions based on data-driven insights.
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across technical sector teams, government agencies, and relevant stakeholders.
