It is autonomous and politically non partisan organization which is governed by its constitution, financial and administrative policy and code of conduct and other various policies. The organization is implementing various projects with multiple donors and INGOs at Gorkha district and few projects are under pipeline.

Unification Nepal Gorkha (UN-Nepal), registered in the District Administration Office (DAO) Gorkha and Social Welfare Council (SWC) in the year 2009, is a non-profit making child-focused organization formed by a team of youth NGO professionals for sustainable development across the country. UN Nepal has been providing implementation technical support to Food and Nutrition Security Enhancement Project (FANSEP) in Barpak Sulikot RM and Gandaki RM of Gorkha which is funded by FAO. For this, UN Nepal is seeking qualified and dynamic Agriculture Technicians (AT) and Livestock Technicians (LT). The summary of ToR is given below.

1. Position: Agriculture Technician – Few

Description of Job

Under the overall guidance of the Executive Director/Focal Person, the Agriculture Technician is responsible for overseeing the crop-related project interventions and shall shoulder the overall responsibilities for the technical support on the implementation of project activities in Barpak Sulikot, Gandkai RM or as assigned by the organization. S/he shall also be matrix supervised and task assigned by Cluster Crop Value Chain Specialist of FAO.  

The Agriculture Technician carries out tasks in accordance with the FANSEP, Project Cluster unit program and policies and systems of UN Nepal. S/he should follow the guidance of the FAO staff and closely work in coordination with other stakeholders at the local level.  

Major responsibilities 

Using technical guidance from FAO TA and UN Nepal, the AT will perform the following tasks:

  • Formation of new groups and selection of existing groups (FFS groups, mother groups, and farmer groups)
  • Conduct group-level orientation/meeting to sensitize FANSEP activities.
  • Facilitate groups to prepare by-laws, group registration at concerned municipalities and institutions and provide group strengthening support.
  • Facilitate groups in developing proposals/business plans.
  • Mobilize crop FFS groups for crop FFS and other training in line with the work plan of the FANSEP/FAO-TA Project
  • Identification of lead farmers from the FFS and facilitate their participation in additional refresher training.
  • Prepare and submit trimester and monthly Joint work plans and monthly progress reports as per the format developed by the project.
  • Identification of demonstration sites, as well as the timely distribution of quality inputs.
  • Facilitate to prepare field days in the GPs, related to the demonstrations and FFS topics.
  • Implementation of seed-related activities. 
  • Provide management, advisory, and other technical support to farmers/farmer groups to the project communities, and adjoining communities within reasonable reach.  
  • Technical support to farmer/farmer groups.
  • Monitor, supervise and prepare monthly progress reports on project-related activities. 
  • Collect and report field-level data required for PMIS to the Crop Value Chain Specialist of FAO-TA monthly and when required. 
  • Prepare and submit trimester and monthly joint work plans as per the format developed by the project.
  • Assist in conducting Model FFS organized by FAO-TA project and help in collecting/recording relevant data from on-farm trials conducted in the FFS.
  • Report on progress in the use of funds disbursed to the beneficiary groups by the project as instructed and on the implementation progress of business plans and matching grant program. 
  • Implement awareness-raising activities on environmental and social issues and safeguard aspects and collect information as per project requirements.
  • Undertake other project-related tasks as assigned by UN Nepal and FAO TA-Team

Minimum Qualification and skills required.

  • Minimum SLC pass with JTA level course of TSLC in Agriculture with at least 2 years of experience in agriculture development projects/activities.
  • Hardworking, adaptive, result oriented, and a good team player.
  • Basic knowledge and skills in computer

2. Position: Livestock Technician – Few

Description of Job

Under the overall guidance of the Executive Director/Focal Person, the Livestock Technician is responsible for overseeing the livestock-related project interventions and shall shoulder the overall responsibilities for the technical support on the implementation of project activities in Gandaki RM, Barpak Sulikot RM or as assigned by the organization. S/he shall also be matrix supervised and task assigned by the Cluster Livestock Value Chain Specialist of FAO.  

The Livestock Technician carries out tasks in accordance with the FANSEP, Project Cluster unit program and policies and systems of UN Nepal.  S/he should follow the guidance of the FAO staff and closely work in coordination with other stakeholders at the local level.

The task to be carried out by Livestock Technician

Using technical guidance from FAO TA and UN Nepal, the Livestock Technician will perform the following tasks: 

  • Formation of new groups and selection of existing groups (FFS groups, mother groups and farmer groups)
  • Conduct group-level orientation/meeting to sensitize FANSEP activities.
  • Facilitating groups to prepare by-laws, group registration at concerned municipalities and other institutions and provide group strengthening support.
  • Facilitate producer Groups in the adoption of BCC practices.
  • Facilitate groups in developing proposals/business plans.
  • Select appropriate pockets for the livestock program.
  • Mobilize livestock FFF groups for livestock FFS and training conduction in the approved program and work plan of the FAO-TA to FANSEP.
  • Collect/record relevant data from on-farm trials conducted in the FFS.
  • Support the goat Multiplier herd for breed improvement and collect the breeding record from the goat multiplier herd and submit it monthly to the respected supervisor.
  • Prepare and submit trimester and monthly joint work plans and reports as per the format developed by the project.
  • Monitor, supervise and prepare monthly progress reports on project-related activities. 
  • Support the farmers to castrate their male breedable bucks and community bucks (if any) not intended for desired breeding purposes.
  • Support adequate and timely supply of forage seeds/saplings for both demonstration and dissemination for the forage intensification program implemented by the project.
  • Ensure the establishment of appropriately designed forage demonstration programs and play a proactive role in their replication.
  • Provide animal health treatment, drenching, and vaccination services to the project beneficiaries.
  • Facilitate signing agreements between MCPSUs and goat breeder farmers and potential buyers. 
  • Technical backstopping to the group as FANSEP-related livestock activities 
  • Support farmer groups to seek and manage the project-supported funds. 
  • Support livestock marketing activities
  • Collect and report field-level data required for PMIS to the Cluster-level Livestock Officer of the TA Team on a monthly basis.
  • Implementing awareness-raising activities on environmental and social issues and safeguarding aspects and collecting information as per project requirements.
  • Report on progress in the use of funds disbursed to the beneficiary groups. 
  • Undertake other project-related tasks as assigned by UN Nepal and FAO TA-Team

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of SLC pass with a completed JTA course in Veterinary or Animal Science with at least 2 years of experience in livestock development projects.  
  • Hardworking, adaptive, result oriented, and a good team player.
  • Basic knowledge and skills in computer
